Brexit - impact on musicians, touring and the music/events industry

Hey I asked for experience? We have tour managers here on urban who have dealt with non eu carnets for decades.
No one has experience of how they will function in real life from UK to the EU, because noone has done it yet.

If you want replies from specific people then just pm them.

Our keyboard player had a vintage amplifier (I can't remember what it was called, bees may know). It had a spinning part inside that created a very special sound. It was the size of a small wardrobe and very old so weighing it would be very difficult without specialist gear. Yes most stuff can be sorted with a bathroom scales and some get up and go but there's loads of big stuff that isn't so easily weighed. Vintage stacks, effects racks, mixing desks.

That will be a Leslie cabinet.

Yeah, having to do a load of things now that didn’t need to be done before is definitely easier and a sure sign of progress. No idea why people are complaining really. Onwards to the glorious freedom.
Who said anything about it being easier? It's part and parcel of selling goods from the UK into the EU.
What do you think should be done (given that the UK isn't an EU country)?

Take them to your local scrapyard, drop them a tenner and use their scales.

Supposedly if you are travelling with your own gear as luggage you and the counties definition of 90 day visa also equals working visa (the terms appear to be interchangeable according to our government, who ask you to check for yourself to make sure), then you don't need a carnet for gear. This will only be good news for very small bands who don't need a van load of stuff or more. Might be a while before all the boarder patrols are down with this though. The finer details can seem vague and open to a little interpretation so may well lead to a bit of a hold up or worse.

To be honest I'm not in the game anymore but I have every confidence the extremely resourceful people that work in the live event industry will do this and many other creative solutions. I do still have friends working on the road so know they will adapt.

But as an "impact on musicians touring and the music events industry" it is definitely a thing that is now a pain in the arse that wasn't previously so if anyone is going to have a moan about it this would seem the right place. I just wanted to give some context as to why it isn't as straightforward or "easy" as suggested.

BRB off to start a thread on Brexit and its impact on food manufacturers exporting to the EU*. That's what I do now.

*hahaha no way fuck that

It's definitely not as straightforward as it was, that was to be expected, but I'm pretty sure Bahnhof Strasse's offer to provide a workaround for certain things was simply ignored. It seems some people would rather just moan about it than try to find a way to make things easier.

Well I'm staying out of that particular ding dong for one.

I think Bahnhof Strasse offer was more related to people movement rather than kit? Would be interested to see if he knows about the previous convictions playing a part in the new visa scheme thing.

He had absolutely nothing constructive or useful to offer small bands touring Europe, despite professing to know best.

I'd rather take my advice from actual working musicians in bands, or the Musicians Union or the person who books our European tours. They really do know best.

Thanks for posting suggestions but really you needn’t have bothered.

You'd think on a left leaning board, posters would unanimously unite to empathise, understand and support struggling musicians who risk losing their livelihoods because of government bureaucracy.

Instead, there's been calls for them to give up and get another job, endlessly whataboutery playing down the actual impact of these new rules, and a load of shit about moaning bands supposedly 'evading tax' on small amounts of merchandise. It's like the fucking Daily Mail here at times.

This is because Brexit is a cult.

Yeah well most of us don't own a website where we can go "What about me, what about me?" day in day out, while we promote our endeavours as much as we like without having to ask permission. So swings and roundabouts really.

If me posting on one thread about something that directly affects my career bothers you so much, feel free to ignore it. There's literally tens of thousands of other threads for you to choose from so there's no need to keep whining here.

Oh, and plenty of regulars here have used the boards to promote their own 'endeavours' too, so I've no idea what your big, killer point is.

It was more people with their own kit. As a result I am £270k up on where I was last year, but one drummer’s rage led him to be so fucking rude to me that I gave up speaking with him, he replies to me as the thick cunt doesn’t understand what ignore means he and his band can stagnate whilst my customers can flourish.

^^^travelling across Europe in the front row today, enjoying our Brexit bonus…

Ah shite, sorry you're on holiday aren't you? Should have left you be.
Just landed back at Heathrow, two new Belgian companies sick of Brexit want to be my customers in the space of one flight🙁

no one available to operate the air bridge, Covid apparently but obviously Brexit…

Just following the sitemaster's example.

Oh, and plenty of regulars here have used the boards to promote their own 'endeavours' too,

Only one poster gets to start an entire thread promoting their own band, or have the rules changed? Did you ask permission? From yourself?

No advertising. We are not interested in hearing about your company/website/club/gig/song/product. This is a non-profit, community discussion forum, not a free advertising resource and offenders will be banned.
You may advertise gigs/events/parties but you must obtain permission from a moderator first.

I've no idea what your big, killer point is.

I didn't realise that was necessary. If it is, there's a lot of tidying that needs doing around here.

When I started that thread I wasn't in the band, and hadn't been for 16 years, you fucking clueless muppet.

I was a fan of the band - as are some of the posters here - and didn't join them until eight years after the thread was started. By God, you've just made a twat of yourself.

Oh, and there's long been a policy of it being OK for community members to post up details of their gigs/club nights. It's great that the site can support them.
Here's just one example for you to get suitably red faced about. There's plenty more.
