Brexit - impact on musicians, touring and the music/events industry

I guess the equivalent would be if last year you had posted a thread about how tough it was in the travel industry and how you were struggling, and then a load of people on here (who didn’t have a clue about the travel industry, or any genuine interest in it) jumped on it and started taking the piss and calling you stupid etc, and posting about how well their job was going. It would be a bit shit if that happened right?

Well, if you’re so common that you insist on flying with other people, maybe… ;)

You really don't have to buy a long time term share in an aircraft in order to fly

If I were to start a self-pitying thread bemoaning the decimation of the travel industry I would expect it to be ridiculed if I maintained that the current woes it finds itself in is solely due to Brexit and would accept that my disingenuousness had been called out.

Except absolutely no one has ever, ever claimed that all the problems for small bands touring Europe are entirely due to Brexit. Covid has also played a big part.

But some of us who are actually in bands are most definitely suffering because of Brexit, with our livelihoods being threatened by the new restrictions, bureaucracy and costs, and all you can do is post up braying photos of yourself sitting in first class on a plane and boasting about the 270k you've just raked in.

Yeah, well done mate. So how many small bands (not hairdressers) have you put on tour in Europe recently?

You know you can ignore the thread right? Might be better than feeling you have to rail against all the concerns raised and discussion going on?

What concerns? Brexit will affect tours, the government is very slowly working on it, yet there is no massive rush as no tours can happen due to Covid, so repeated calls to name bands touring are rightly scoffed at.

One thing that will never go back to where it was is the tax-dodging nature of small bands with their merch. Fuck tax dodgers, large and small, frankly.

Unbelievable right wing bullshit.
Why don’t you ignore the thread?
Because they're constantly disrupting the thread with their ignorant bullshit.

What do you feel about Bahnhof Strasse posting up luxury lifestyle photos, braying about his quarter of a million increased earnings and calling small bands 'tax dodgers'?

Think that's helpful to musicians struggling on the breadline?

The concerns raised by the knowledgeable musicians and people involved in the events industry that post here
Of course, you carry on going round in circles with your responses if it's that important to you to rebuff their concerns and experiences

You can't escape the fact the thread was started to bemoan brexit with the standard being applied that if the Op alledged they had lost a penny because of brexit then brexit ergo is shit. The assertion warrants a bit of investigation especially when it harks back to the halcyon days of yore when it was possible to sign on and then do a tour of Europe, selling merchandise and trousering all the gross takings.

You and a handful of others can use it to bash the OP all you like (for whatever personal, weird and sometimes vindictive reasons) but there are genuine concerns so others can and should be allowed to post and discuss those.

Not going to go into a back and forth with you, enjoy

So no discussion from you then! Cool.

What a load of wank. I dodge taxes whenever I possibly can.
At what point does tax dodging become a bad thing? I'm not suggesting you're wrong to fiddle, but surely Bezos' lifestyle dictates that he should be allowed to fiddle a lot more than you or me?

Tax dodging isn't an absolute wrong. I'm afraid you need a basic class analysis of society to work out where the line's drawn.
Therein lies the problem. Bezos probably started out on his slippery slope by not declaring the sale of just one single copy of How to win friends and influence people. An obvious gateway book.
