'Bleeding' vegan burger is an 'existential threat' to beef' whines NZ MP

And you're welcome to the horrendous cruelty, tortured animals and slaughter, and you're welcome to the disastrous impact your diet is having on the planet. Enjoy.
Because plant harvesting is death and cruelty free of course and doesn't lead to damage to soil

Get livestock on the pasture, heal the soil. No one here supports factor farming mate, you're arguing with yourself.

Perhaps you should read this, because this is the reality of promoting Meat eatingL

Biggest analysis to date reveals huge footprint of livestock - it provides just 18% of calories but takes up 83% of farmland
“A vegan diet is probably the single biggest way to reduce your impact on planet Earth, not just greenhouse gases, but global acidification, eutrophication, land use and water use,” said Joseph Poore, at the University of Oxford, UK, who led the research. “It is far bigger than cutting down on your flights or buying an electric car,” he said, as these only cut greenhouse gas emissions.

“Agriculture is a sector that spans all the multitude of environmental problems,” he said. “Really it is animal products that are responsible for so much of this. Avoiding consumption of animal products delivers far better environmental benefits than trying to purchase sustainable meat and dairy.”

The analysis also revealed a huge variability between different ways of producing the same food. For example, beef cattle raised on deforested land result in 12 times more greenhouse gases and use 50 times more land than those grazing rich natural pasture. But the comparison of beef with plant protein such as peas is stark, with even the lowest impact beef responsible for six times more greenhouse gases and 36 times more land.
Avoiding meat and dairy is ‘single biggest way’ to reduce your impact on Earth

And...
Eating meat has ‘dire’ consequences for the planet, says report

So that's your answer to the environmental crisis? Keep on shoving your face full of meat because some tiny, tiny farm somewhere has managed to reduce its emissions while the rest of the industry remains responsible for catastrophic emissions and waste and shows no signs of stopping or slowing down. Brilliant.

Industrial agriculture is a small contributor to climate change.

You're just arguing against a straw man at this point, so have at it. I'm out

Beef is going green - and the industry can now prove it

I would hazard a guess that anemia isn't any more common amongst vegetarians and vegans...

It’s *slightly* more so in vegetarians. You need fairly serious depletion of iron stores to cause anaemia. Some degree of depletion is fairly common in vegetarians.

For people living in this country, the issue is easily solved by either a little planning or taking a supplement.

I got anaemic last year - following an illness - for the first time ever - ironically 3 years after I'd set to my nutrient intake with a vengeance ... and my bloods were fine this year after living on vegan stew since then.
Being the overstretched NHS there was no follow-up so no idea of the mechanism.

Was the illness (or the meds treating it) affecting your kidneys? Your kidneys secrete a hormone which stimulates red blood cell production.

Bit of a PR win for vegan burgers;

Meat-Eating Agriculture Secretary Tries the Impossible Burger

On Thursday, the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture visited the Impossible Foods Inc. headquarters in Redwood City, California, where staff cooked up their signature alternative-meat burger for him. He said it tasted “very good,” and that it was a “good facsimile” of real beef.
Impossible Foods is a closely held rival to Beyond Meat Inc., which has gained almost 600% since going public last month. The California company is also a critic of the beef industry, and its executives have said their goal is to eliminate cow meat as a significant part of the food system. Impossible Foods says its burgers use 87% less water, 96% less land and emit 89% fewer greenhouse gases than beef from cows.
Bloomberg - Are you a robot?

The illness was just a fluey sort of thing so the only meds I had were the several weeks of iron sulphate tabs ...

I've had a similar thing this year with my blood sugar - though the preceding illness was rather full-on ... one of the conditions that can trigger hyperglycaemia is apparently eclampsia and I'm way to old for that ;)
(in fact the initial diagnosis of low testosterone hinted at the manopause :D )

Once again, no Gregory House and a team of diagnosticians .... makes me wonder about a lot of NHS diagnoses that get to be part of the stats...

I noticed my local small Tesco have pulled jackfruit - though I live in a trendy area - and Hellman's vegan mayonnaise - though the "gluten-free" shelves are much better stocked.
But I can remember when I had to go to a special shop for soy milk and Tesco have loads of variants.

No mention yet in the thread of the vegans who don't believe in vegan burgers and sausage being called such, because it reminds them of these foods meaty forbearers?

The word "sausage" was first used in English in the mid-15th century, spelled "sawsyge".[1] This word came from Old North French saussiche (Modern French saucisse)".[1] The French word came from Vulgar Latin salsica (sausage), from salsicus (seasoned with salt).[1]

Hamburg
German city, the -burg is German Burg "fort," in reference to the moated castle built there c. 825; the first element is perhaps Old High German hamma "ham, back of the knee" in a transferred sense of "bend, angle," with reference to its position on a river bend promontory; or Middle High German hamme "enclosed area of pastureland."
