'Bleeding' vegan burger is an 'existential threat' to beef' whines NZ MP

Spinach has had ups and downs in its reputation. I remember when I was a kid it was regarded as super healthy but kind of horrible (and came in tins"). Then not so healthy but nicer, and now it seems to be getting some health mojo back (very good for folate especially, but quite a few goodies in there). The oxalate thing might be a bit over-egged. Ah - also great in scrambled eggs...
It forms an excellent part of a balanced diet.

Yeah, but you can say that about *loads* of stuff. Probably most things you would recognise as food.

Exceptions include:

Cyanide
Crack
Bricks
Minidisc recorders
Chuck Norris

It was a cow, not a pig in HHGTTG.

And it is arguable that your own moral framework should not necessarily be compromised by its collision with another’s. If you think it is wrong to eat something, that need not be affected by the something disagreeing with you (any more than its inverse).

This is definitely different to the opinion which I thought was Jeff's and Jeff thought was you. :D

(I think it *might* something about it being self-evidently wrong to eat any animal with sufficient sentience and understanding that it could understand what it is to be eaten, even if it had been engineered to *want* to be eaten, and that the engineering part was a weak cop-out of responsibility)

Well who knows? It’s possible I’ve changed my mind. I don’t like to hold onto the same set of principles for too long in case I get trapped in them.

What is "gluten woo"? I gave up grain because it wrecked my blood sugar.

The hordes of yummy yoga types insistent they are allergic to gluten.

Gluten itself is rather prevalent in most diets and supermarket bread is especially shit in terms of its quality and digestive content but it's far from the world's evil that many dieters claim it is.

At worst most of em might be a bit bloated, but gluten won't kill them.

A major problem of most diet advice is that it's just an excuse to spend money on something else and is usually aggressively marketed as "this will solve your problems!"

I always find it interesting that none of those BBC presenters brought up on 1970s sexual misconduct charges never tried this defense.

Maybe they are allergic, most people will have no idea one way or the other.

Whether gluten is fatal isn't really the issue though. Modern grain quality is simply inferior. We've fucked it up

Interestingly, kabbes argument makes a little more sense when I read it now than it seemed to at the time.
Although the complicating is still that a lot of people's morality about eating a sentient creature is tied up with the creature's interests.
It seems that I am consistent after all. It’s all about my morality, not the creature’s. It’s me that I have to answer to, after all.

It's not so much the grain but the fast enzyme rising, it with shit to make awful bread.

I was under the impression that the Chorley Wood process was actually developed to make use of inferior LOW-gluten flour ?

Just as an aside, reminded me of this.

Consistence is one of the elements of coherence. But complete coherence is impossible.

Aiming higher is possible. :)

Edit: just to elaborate on what I mean - you said "if it is capable of asking me to eat it, then I don't want to eat it". If this is a dogmatic assertion, then you are perfectly consistent, just like you would be if you were merely weirded out by the situation.

But when pushed you said that if you took the animal's morality/culture into account this would be leading into moral relativism. That may be so, but what you would more directly be doing (if you chose to take any account of what it says) would be taking its *interests* into account. Which is down to *your* morality, and not a case of moral relativism at all.

The trick Douglas Adams is really playing is that the creature's perception of its own interests have been manipulated, so the question of authenticity of agency muddies the waters.

I'm definitely catching a strong whiff of lobster :hmm:
Jordan Petersen is a piece of shit who only latches on to the carnivore/zero carb diet to fleece his gulible teenage fanbase. As for his daughter? Well she's his manager so...

I don't think just beef muscle meat is viable or desirable.

Hope that helps.

Well that's a relief :)
There is definitely an unfortunate crossover between these alt light wankers and meat based diet adherents. I've encountered this online and I've tried speaking out against it. As I said I don't agree with the "soy boy" insult, that's part of the problem. However the question of what's healthy has nothing to do with poitical bullshit that exists in the world

I don't know what a "soy boy" is supposed to look like, but Paul Joseph Watson looks very unhealthy indeed.
Peterson looks constipated. I certainly wouldn't want to share a bathroom.
I've eaten hardly anything but veggies for nearly 40 years and neck soy milk by the litre and I resemble a brick built outhouse - OK perhaps more in bulk than muscle.

I'd never heard the term "soy boy" before today.
If I'd had to guess, I'd probably say maybe Banksy has found a sidekick.

Fermented soy is meant to be superior, bt i've never seen it on sale anywhere. personally i don't see the point of eating it as I'm not a vegan. There are, I think, some issues. Whether they live up to the bullshit spouted by the Paul Joseph Watsons of the world is another question. Besides he peddles Alex Jones' brain pills.
