I'm really surprised how attacking and hard working teams have been, especially with the heat. It just seems to be such a turnaround from the general slow possession based style we're used to. It's almost like watching Premiership in terms of speed.

I think some quite lackadaisical refereeing has enabled that. Firstly cause there's less interruptions fot free kicks, secondly less players playing for free kicks, and more counter attacks
 
Yeah for all the good football of the underdogs There's a distinct familiarity shaping up to the teams left.
Well Costa Rica, Colombia & Belgium/USA aren't very familiar quarter finalists - even if the latter two were a lot of people's dark horses
 
This is perhaps a bit mad, but Tim Howard with his beard is ten times the keeper that Tim Howard without his beard is.
 
It's about the overall performance and commitment.
If their performance was 'great' they would have at least looked like scoring after 80 minutes of football. Running around a lot and trying their best doesn't make them a great team.
