Brazil v Chile (Knockout Stage) Saturday 28th June 2014

Feel so sorry for Chile. They looked done in for a while though, it was mostly Brazil in extra time. However unfair penalties seem it's kind of fitting that a match this close was decided on chance.

Feel really sorry for Chile. They've been brilliant right through this World Cup. That poor sod that hit the bar in extra time. :(

I recorded this, watched right through to the beginning of extra time - then the recording stopped. Looks like the OT is considered a new program.

Good on Brazil for winning it, but tbh, they played like crap. Never a good thing to see any kind match decided on OT penalty shots.

you missed Chile launch a rocket at the Brazilian goal in the second half of OT that nearly knocked the posts over. OT was largely uneventful, players pretty knackered on both sides, but Chile really came close with that shot

I was at a wedding yesterday so I couldn't watch this, but one of my mates is married to a Brazilian ex sports journalist so she just refreshed twitter through the whole thing. She didn't agree with me that it was just a game. :D

I'm glad Brazil won cos it would have been a bit awkward otherwise.

I'm starting to get a little bit fed up with this 'what would happen if Brazil were knocked out, it would spoil things' stuff. I was roundly on the side of Chile last night, and will be cheering on Colombia on Friday. Brazil are not all that.

It's extra time, not bloody over time!
:D i was tired when posting!

I don't like to see a game settled on free kicks but it was a great kick-off...well done Brazil!

Yes, and i was also thinking last night, maybe its only fair that Brazil win it, their government has spent so much money on this, maybe it would be a tiny drop of compensation to everyone whose been robbed of their taxes.

Does anyone know the precedent on these kinds of spending projects? I presume the government see the whole thing as an advertising exercise that will bring investment and tourism - does it ever add up? Slightly backfired on me as its made me want to go to Costa Rica!

RIP Jairo de Oliveira age 69, who was taken ill at the Brazil match yesterday in Belo Horizonte and died of a heart attack shortly afterwards.
