Beauty products that actually work

I'm after a recommendation.

I've used Elizabeth Arden's Pure Finish Mineral Powder Foundation for years and really like it - lasts ages because I only wear make up about once a fortnight. But I can't find it anywhere in the shade I use :(

So, looking for something very similar please.

I have used and liked Bare Minerals which I bought via the starter pack. After going to a Clarins event I now use their mineral powder mostly because it comes with it's brush.

I bet you can do eyeliner too :D
It's easy, just close the eye and gently pull the skin outwards until the skin is tauter. Draw on the upper lashline in short strokes, open the eye then pull the outer corner of the eye till the lower lashline is taut and draw the lower line on. As an old hag I don't do complete eyeliner but stop short of the inner corner or I look like I was stranded in the eighties.

I'm terrified of glycolic acid as I worked in the states about 10 years ago and loads of the women had scary smooth, tight, red skin from acid peels and creams. They looked like sunburnt barbie dolls. I know they've moved on a lot now, but it's what I always think of!

Always makes me think of Patsy in Ab Fab!

Vichy Aqualia Thermal Serum - the one Sali Hughes raves about - my skin looks so much better using this, hydrated, feels and looks fresher. Best serum I have tried and not wincingly pricey.

Nivea In Shower Moisturiser - what it says, you pop this on and rinse it off in the shower. Does make the shower a wee bit slippy. I think this was another thing recommended in the Hughes column. This is an absolute life saver for workday showers, saves time and during the summer I've found I haven't had to "top up" with any other moisturiser though that may change in the winter.

I really like that serum too. Must get another bottle. I also really like the sound of the Nivea in Shower Moisturiser. Perfect for the lazy - ie me. :D

On Sali Hughes recommendation, I got the MUA eyebrow mascara for the princely sum of £2. It's brilliant - gives me slightly more defined, groomed eyebrows with no crispiness.

I think it was Ms T who recommended Una Brennan Superfacialist stuff? Anyway whoever did, thank you  I am using the rose night cream and it's actually made the deep smoking lines around my mouth a bit less noticeable  Woohoo.

It was. I love the Rose cleanser and the Vitamin C cleansing oil.

Soap and glory flake away body scrub. I used to make my own but they make the shower very oily so this is a good substitute.

Can anyone recommend me a decent powder? Ideally not too expensive (i.e. under a tenner if possible). the last one I bought was allegedly 'nude' but makes me look like an oompa loompa and I have fairly dark skin anyway  It needs to be something that will hold up under stage lighting if possible.

Powder by itself or over foundation in terms of holding up under stage lighting?

I bought the No 7 lift and luminate night cream a while back and it's lovely, so got a sampler of the day cream. Fuck me. SHINY SHINY . And it clogs up my mineral powder brush

Probably okay to use at the weekend if I'm not wearing any slap like.

Ok - been idly waiting for someone to bump this thread.

I want recommendations for bomb-proof eyebrow makeup. Not eyebrow tinting - I need to give the impression of filling in where the hair is sparse. I've tried Benefit brow zings, blinc, MAC, and a couple of cheapies. Any others I should be trying that will last at least 12 hours?

What is it you do that makes it not last ? Do you rub y'face a lot ? Have you been using the pencils or the stuff that's like wax plus powder eyeshadow ? I'll plug makeup revolution eyebrow stuff while I'm here but anything I wear goes on at 05:30 and is crowbarred off at around 21:00, so I can understand frustration if something isn't staying the distance.

I'd like to know too. I've tried various things - the best is definitely a stuff brush with a wax but everything comes off once you start rubbing/fiddling.

I got the semi permanent make up done which was the best thing I had done for my eyebrows.

Not sure - I suspect it may be touching my face. My skin is ever so slightly on the oilier side of narmal, and i work in a really hot building, which doesn't help. But I"ll try the makeup revolution.

Brow zings is a wax-n-powder thing, and most of the others are tinted gels that go on with a mascara-lik applicator. I also tried a stargazer one that is a felt tip.

Do you mean like tattooing? My mum has had that a few times, but it looks slightly purplish which has put me right off.

Yeah, I got it two summers ago and it's still just about there. Mine was done very well, no strange colours - looked a bit dark at first but was very pleased with it, especially as I swim a lot.
