Saabs are meant to be great. But theyve gone bust and parts arent so plentiful. You could get stranded in central or southern europe. that wouldnt happen with a volvo ford bmw audi Toyota...

That 2011 Accord for 2900ish is still going spare. Petrol but not too inefficient. ULEZ for sure. You could do worse.

I would stay clear of an ageing diesel estate tbh. Yes youll spend more on petrol but theyre a lot easier and cheaper to fix medium term. Also better resale value currently.
I agree about SAAB. They're great cars, well built, comfortable, everything you can need. Best car I've ever owned. But parts are not that readily available, there's a SAAB parts club though. They have affordable parts. Whether they ship to Europe I don't know.

I've had an Accord. Brilliant car. Bloody expensive when it goes wrong though.

In these circumstances I'd go for a diesel, because it's cheaper than petrol. They're also very reliable. I'd also go for something GM or Ford because they're so common.

SAAB became part of GM in '89. Wouldn't that mean lots of parts are by GM and therefore plentiful?
SAAB still managed to not use GM parts in a lot of areas of their cars. There's still some cross over but not always interchangeability. SAAB had very much higher standards and expectations of their cars.

Banger is in for its MOT, mechanic gave me that look this morning when it got dropped off. That look that says he's less optimistic than I was hoping for...

hmm the last Saab is basically a Vectra that gm told them to rebadge in the cheapest way possible

Saab went fuck that and overdesigned the shite out of the 95 even spending millions designing it own sat nav when GM on the shelf options

it basically what killed the company off

It's a funeral car. it's had dead people in it. thousands of times. Crikey buy a Mondeo already :D
It was described as a limo not a hearse. And even if it were a hearse I still don't see a problem. I still would.
There is or was a club for hearse owners

ULEZ means diesel has to be post 2015- so silly money for soemthing I might need to leave at the side of the road.

That was definitely a hurst at some point.....

It just depends if you want something reliable or something rare and quirky. Guaranteed you will have problems with an older saab like that after 6 months of racking up miles.

thats a funeral car not a hurst the cost of modifiying it to carry dead people is very expenisive
they leave the trapping in old ones :D

and on like most limos the back will only be spoiled with tears not other body fluids

Any bangers for us to peruse?

I saw a Volvo V50 yesterday looked tidy af. Not too small at all. Could def do worse than a petrol ULEZ one or a diesel one that's compliant with high mileage mebe.

true and the cost of petrol but it would be smiles for miles with a understated sleeper

ripping the balls out of the BMW crowd at ever light available

was contemplating one of these for a bit

same engine as a ford sti

0-60 in 6.4 :D

My brother in law has one, they’re very comfortable, and v punchy obviously. He drives it like the anorak wearing Lib Dem he is though.

Same engine as my C70 (which I haven't driven since July), so don't expect it to be any good on fuel.

I just couldn't get past 26mpg however hard I tried.

surprised you getting that at all unless you doing motorway miles with a 2.5
That's incredible. I managed 26mpg with a 3.5L BMW (with the aerodynamics of a rough brick) on the motorway. I'd expect a lot better for motorway miles.
