Bangers chat

My neighbour texted me to say sorry, she bumped my van when parking and popped her bumper off. Without checking I said unless you can see some mad bump on mine not to worry, as I don't really care too much. Just come back and checked and I can't notice any new bangs or scratches - it's covered in them already.

Maybe if she hit a nicer car she'd be temped to pretend it didn't happen, but I think she knows where my standards are at

Just had new sills welded on my fiesta. Should I paint the welded part?

Edit: it seems obvious that I should, but the garage never mentioned it :D

It's a 16 year old Fiesta, so if you are going to sell it then yes. If you are just going to drive it around then no.

Repairs like that are just buying time and usually not very much of it. I wouldn't spend a penny on it.

i had a late 80s fiesta rustbucket once. once things started needing welding, it went downhill and they ran out of car to weld bits to. not sure if more recent ones are better...

It's a 2009 and it's shit. I'll do it myself, I've got all the stuff from previous repair attempts.
If it's a 1.0 ecoboost (ecoboom!) I'd just leave it those engines are terrible, it will inevitably blow up in a few years time and you'll have wasted all that hard work on the poor thing for nothing ;)

I jest, seriously, I would really recommend spending more time prepping the surface and sanding, then a good degreaser, tack cloths when painting and some 3000 and 5000 grit sandpaper to wetsand (wrap around a firm washing up sponge) for finishing and blending in after painting. Even if you use rattle cans if you get a can of that 2k clear coat it can look like a pretty professional job. Just wear a respirator it's nasty fucking stuff.

You have really nice natural lines there you can use so it's not too noticeable at all anyway.

The modern ones use thinner steel but have marginally better anti-corrosion measures so it's difficult to say. The longevity of this particular repair will depend on the diligence applied on the interior cavity - the bit you can't see.
