Just seen this on twitter: multiple dead, shooter also dead.

The event went down at a building site, apparently. Maybe this was an old school "disgruntled employee" thing?

The fact that three dead is worthy of a moment’s silence before a major international sports event in NZ just highlights the difference between the sane world and the US, where it’d barely even get a mention.

According to this the shooter had the usual history of mental health problems, domestic violence (as perpetrator) - all things which are sadly not confined to the United States:
