Asparagus season

Where's the best place to get it?

The Vale of Evesham.

I recommend the Round of Gras pub in Evesham and the Fleece Inn at Bretforton which does an asparagus themed menu at this time of year. Asparagus for starter, asparagus for main and, in my case, asparagus and custard for pud.

And don't forget...

My Nan lived near Evesham :)

Coincidentally I bought a nice bunch of asparagus today - just looked at the label and it's from Kent

Really! Ohh better go and look but not sure where to look.

Had to go to Waitrose the other week, theirs seemed ok. The stuff in Tesco looked a bit ropey... Yeah, Morrison's probably worth a go. Like OU said, check the label to make sure it's not imported. It tends to be pretty expensive wherever you get it in the UK; labour and land intensive crop. Got family in East Anglia, so I'll often get some from there via one method or another. I really don't understand how this place hasn't managed to get a proper farmer's market going. Even a decent grocer. Oh wait... I think the Moor market might be worth a go.

I actually went in the moor today but it was after 5 and places were closing up.
I'm continually horrified at the price of fruit and veg here although understandable after Turkey.

Any room for a raised bed or two in your soon-to-be garden?

We are the same when we visit U.K. even after 15 years U.K. prices still shock us, especially given the relatively poor quality of many fruits and veg.

Best asparagus I've had was in Germany , their white asparagus is the nuts . I think they keep a lot of it to themselves  Don't think I've seen it for sale over here (although I haven't looked very hard)
