Fishing season 2020

Stepson fished over night and had a couple of carp. I went down for a few hours to pick him up and blanked. That's why it's called fishing and not catching :D

Quick overnighter under the stars (no bivvy, just bedchair and a brolly) . Got to the lake at about 4 yesterday in the blazing heat, tuned into TMS the whole time. Had this 14lb2 mirror off the top... Such an exciting method of fishing. Had another small mirror, a small common, 3 bream and a tench through the night. Couldnt get any action this morning though despite it looking promising and casting to showing fish. Good little session

Not the canal tomorrow, we are trying a carp lake between Bawtry and Retford, supposedly a good spot. I basically need somewhere I can get back into it and build my knowledge back up.

If the lakes round your way are anything like round here they have been hammered since people have been able to fish again. I've been finding putting little to no extra bait in other than a pva bag on the hook is sufficient

A good day yesterday, was using pellet waggler, just in the margins. There had been a match on Sunday and as Mumbles274 says above there must have been tons of food going in. We got set up around midday and fished until seven. Lovely spot and I will be going back.
First two hours only slight knocks on float, not any real takers, I then went right into the edge and was using double sweet corn on a twelve hook. I was into a shoal of Bream, everything getting slimed up, had five all around four pounds. Then I hooked into what went off like a wild boar chased by a nudist. It went the full width of the lake in seconds. Our nip wouldn’t stop laughing. Obviously a double figure fish but it got under some tree roots and spat the hook out after five minutes of trying to retrieve it. Next time hopefully, I had a consolation four pound common a bit later.

Aerial shot of lake, not my photo! There are three banks to fish from the other belongs to the owner of the small house.
Edit. He owns the whole lot he just keeps one bank for private use.

It’s a few years since I fished that place, used to catch lots of orfe on the waggler and maggot.

Take a friend fishing scheme is about to start, great way to get non anglers to have a go

Had a little early morning session on Saturday. Club lake has been tough fishing. Managed this 8lb2 common on ledger. Could have had more but was fishing one rod with my centrepin and float so missed bites I think I would have had with a ledger set up, but really wanted to catch on my pin. Also lost a fish that weeded me up on ledger rod and had a few other bites that didn't hook up. Not complaining, plenty of other anglers weren't catching at all.

The great thing about my club lake is it's only 5mins drive away so I can pack the car up and be fishing in 10 minutes. Less than an hour later today I'd had 3 bites and banked 2 fish.. Tbh. All those bites were in the space of maybe 10 minutes.. Had one more fish and lost 3 or 4 more. Love a summer evening fishing

Another quick evening session last night, dropped stepson off to do the night so fished for a few hours into dark. He managed a fish half hour before I picked him up today, having lost a couple overnight. He kinda made a classic error though. Had decided where he wanted to fish before he got to the lake. We fished one spot on the bigger lake first as someone was in his spot, and he put a couple of rods next to some lillies that were alive with fish. But he wanted to fish that spot on the smaller lake so moved there when it was free. I moved with him having had no joy getting one on the surface but went looking and found the fish and had 3 or 4 bites in a few hours, banked 2 and lost one. A guy this morning turned up and fished those lilies and had 2 doubles. Still, that's angling, you gotta learn!

Our nip was talking to the owner of one of the currently closed commercial pond/lakes in the area, whilst tackle shopping in Bawtry yesterday. Apparently the combination of warm weather and unprecedented numbers of anglers following lockdown throwing in feed has caused a lot of waters to become deoxygenated. This has lead to a number of fish in several venues dying. The owners have got together and closed their venues for up to a month for them to recover. Our nip said won’t that just repeat the problem in a month? But apparently there is a plan to introduce aerators and even fountains into some. So we are on the canals and rivers for a few weeks. I shall keep you posted.
