hundreds of women who claimed a man had raped them, swarmed into a court in nagpur, armed with knives, stones and chilli powder, and killed the suspected rapist, this after continual inaction by the police. Vigilante justice in action, afterwards they all asked to be arrested and charged but the police appear to be focussing on one women, who claimed she hadn't been there, and curiously is probably better educated than the other women...

astonishing story, my sympathies lie with the women, if he was guilty of muliple rape, intimidation and murder, and the authorities failed to act, what choice did the women have but to kill him....

The negative version, but a variation on the positive theme I believe we should adopt to take back our streets from the yobs and thieves:

"You can't intimidate us all"

Stand up. Shout. Chase. Help victims. Be counted. Be a witness ... Safety in numbers, and there's millions more good people than there are scum.

The thing is, though, he was finally up in court for his crimes. The inaction of the police and the authorities' failure to act had ended, hadn't it?

At 3pm on August 13 2004, Akku Yadav was lynched by a mob of around 200 women from Kasturba Nagar. It took them 15 minutes to hack to death the man they say raped them with impunity for more than a decade. Chilli powder was thrown in his face and stones hurled. As he flailed and fought, one of his alleged victims hacked off his penis with a vegetable knife. A further 70 stab wounds were left on his body. The incident was made all the more extraordinary by its setting. Yadav was murdered not in the dark alleys of the slum, but on the shiny white marble floor of Nagpur district court.

The thing is, though, he was finally up in court for his crimes. The inaction of the police and the authorities' failure to act had ended, hadn't it?

he was still taunting them in court and threatening them, they snapped...they had lost faith in their legal system and thought he would get away with it again...
