Argentina to fly the flag of Las Malvinas at London Olympics

You mean, our influence within that corrupt gladhanding international jokeshop FIFA? The ones who gave the WC to Qatar? oh be still my sides...

Fool, he made it perfectly clear that he was speaking of the past. And he is perfectly correct--the English ran FIFA under Rous, and they used their influence to ensure they won the World Cup in 1966, in what remains the most egregiously fixed tournament of all time. Fool.

oh goodey, another expert!
It's that game played with a round ball, philip, that you know zero about, beyond being picked last for schools teams

I hope it's not escaped your attention that host nations generally do better than might be expected in world cups. If you have a look at the yallop book I referred to above then you'll come across numerous examples of dubious results in world cup games

So Qatar will qualify if we manage to qualify we could send a pub team in protest not sure if anyone would notice though ;(

FACT: No host nation had won the world cup since WW2 before England's fraudulent victory in 1966.

Considering that three of those host nations were Sweden, Chile and Switzerland, (all three of whom in fact performed better than usual in the finals) your FACT proves very little, or, could it be, nothing.

Mercosul have banned the entry of malvinense flagged vessels into the ports of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay (sorry can't find anything in English).

I'm not sure what effect this will have, are there many ships registered in the malvinense?

You conveniently neglect to mention that the other host nation was Brazil.

Having said that, it's true that host nations do well at world cups, as home teams generally do.

It is also true that the 1966 WC was one of the most blatant stitch-ups in the history of the game, and that it is universally recognized as such outside England.

The point was that apart from Brazil, who in fact reached the final, the other hosts are not countries with glowing records in World Cup Finals.

As for 1966 being one of the most blatant stitch-ups, that is an opinion and cannot be stated to be the truth.

if that's the case then you will have no difficulty linking to a few fairly reputable sites supporting what you're saying

Fuck them they publicly admitted its now just a resource grab with no legitimacy so bollocks to them

Sorry likesfish, I read your posts with interest as it's clear you've served and have a non-conformist perspective (at least with regard to this site), which is creditable imo.

But you're not the only (ex) soldier here, and racist shit like "spic" embarrasses most right thinking folk; black, white, and yellow. It diminishes any reasonable point you may have attached to it.

I'd think a lot more of you if you withdrew that.

Mercosur pledges
"to adopt, in conformity with international law and respective domestic legislation, all the measures it's possible to impose to impede the entry of boats flying the illegal flag of the Malvinas Islands,"

More interesting news from Las Americas . Mercosur , the Latin American trade giant comprising Argentina ,Uruguay , Paraguay ,Brazil Chile etc etc ( Venezuelas membership remains pending) has reaffirmed the pariah status of "The Falklands" by announcing a ban on any ship flying the Falklands flag from entering their ports. Causing some ire at the foreign office . Uruguay in particular are quite strident on the issue .

Uruguay proposed the move to close ports to Falklands-flagged vessels. Mr Mujica said: "We hold nothing against the UK. But we have a lot in favour of Argentina."
He said solidarity among South America's neighbours was key to his country's foreign policy, adding:
"For the moment, this means accepting that this territory is a colonial British position in our America ."

Kirchner has thanked those at the summit for their support and made the point
: "Malvinas is not an Argentine cause, it is a global cause, because in the Malvinas they are taking our oil and fishing resources.... when there is need for more resources, those who are strong are going to look for them wherever and however they can."
Uruguay have also gone a step further than merely banning "Falklands" registered ships from their ports but also British naval vessels bound for Las Malvinas.
"for reasons of solidarity with Argentina,"

Uruguay unilaterally began turning back Falkland registered ships at the beginning of the month .

Anyways its appears to be casuing a bit of " to do" diplomatically speaking .

Frankly the situation with Ireland is shit - yes, the Brits behaved abombinably in Ireland. But the comparison to the Falklands is a strawman though. Where the fuck did the World Cup come into the discussion!? Yet another BS distraction. No discussion of the 'Hand of God' I see, and I'm a Scot!

The latest move by the Argentine government affects all of 25 vessels, most of which are trawlers. UK registered vessels supplying the Falklands can still dock whilst heading to and from the Falklands. Yet again more nationalistic hype on both sides of the Atlantic.

If you think anyone takes Mercosur seriously - even in S America - you need your head seeing to. They're an irrelevant talking shop that the business community largely ignores, as do most ordinary people in fact
And, umm, can you think of one rather obvious reason why Uruguay might be rather keen on keeping well in with Argentina?

It's also an empty gesture - the vessels can simply change their flag to the normal UK merchant naval one.
