Aiden Burley's Olympics tweets

Not really. I did know and respect a militant anti-fascist with that name though, a lagger who stripped asbestos, sadly now dead.

You're not fit to wipe his boots.

Walter Newton (RIP) was involved with the Rank and File paper The Lagger in the late 70's, shining a light on the H&S record of those company's and government agency's involved in the running and over-seeing the industry. He attended pickets all over the country. I was alongside him, along with workers black-listed, organising in Middlesboro'. Walter is featured in a pamphlet titled: Nuclear Power? No Thanks, by Mike Simons, published by Pluto Press (1978). Walter had an interesting tattoo of the CND symbol on the calf of his leg, which he had done whilst serving time in prison.

Now go away.

Fought in the Spanish Civil War with him as well, I bet.

No, too young. Walter died at a comparatively young age, as did a number of laggers, working in an industry with unsafe conditions, handling asbestos and in an environment with high levels of radiation.

Go on, do Aiden Burley proud and continue making yourself look even more like a complete idiot.

This is good. I refer to your sometimes remarked upon Walter Mittyish nature, and you start on about some bloke called Walter who may or may not have existed.

So...Lletsa doesn't believe this guy should be sacked, others do. Thread closed?

Regarding the OP...Personally I would be happier if people would be honest about their prejudices and not hide behind their hatred of the 'left'. IMO sod him, he's a bigot who doesn't have the gumption to own his bigotry.

No, after been seen to lose the debate you tried the age old smear tactic and failed miserably.

No debate lost, no smears. If you don't want to be considered a bit of a Walter, you should restrain yourself from offering a personal anecdote for every situation.

I wasn't calling for it to be closed. I was commenting on how it has pretty much become a dead end argument.

I then posted on topic, with my opinions about the contents of the OP. :)

Most arguments on here tend to quickly reach a dead end. Or go round in circles (is this the same thing?)

It's what we're condemned to do.

Exaggeration and smear I should have said.

No smear and not really any exaggeration. I await with bated breath the next extract from your 'memoirs of a class struggle revolutionary'.*

*File under fictionalised autobiography.

The thread is about whether public figures should be allowed to make statements that fall outside the smug liberal consensus without everybody calling for them to be disciplined or sacked. I don't approve of either what Burley said or any other actions he may decide to take.

Luckily, though, by posting tut-tutting comments on messageboards like this for the edification of like-minded people, you might be able to head Burley off before he 'smashes' what's left of civilization.
No, the point is about someone who is elected to represent a parliamentary constituency who overstepped the mark. I've seen other MPs disciplined for less. If you don't like the comments on this thread you don't have to stay here but we all know why you do. Don't we?

Overstepped the mark by saying what some of his constiuents are, rightly or wrongly, bound to have been thinking themselves. As I said, it all boils down to whether public figures should be able to go against the grain of the smug liberal consensus (from whatever political direction.)

You don't have a say in what is or isn't acceptable on here, nino, unless your a secret moderator. You unwittingly show why most people don't want to touch your politics with a bargepole. Imagine having your kind, with your uptight, strident self-righteousness and attempts to curtail alternative viewpoints, running the show.

You forget, that we no longer live in the 1960s when MPs like Gerald Nabarro could call black people "niggers". Your line about "smug liberal consensus" betrays you for what you are: a miserable old contrarian who has nothing going for him.

As for the last paragraph of your post, you've finally come clean as to the reason why you're on this thread. Well done, chump. Now, make like an amoeba and go fuck yourself.

You're foaming a bit now, nino. Burley never called anybody by the n-word, and nobody on this thread has called for a return when MPs could do so. Get a grip.

The last paragraph you refer to is the truth of the matter; you know it and it clearly hurts.

You don't read so well, do you LLETSA? Where did I say Burley had called anyone a "nigger"?

Your favourite cliché, "smug liberal consensus" is a favourite of LM types. Yet you tell us that you have no connection with LM? Laughable.
