About the 20mph speed limit in Wales built up areas? Which goes live tonight..

CBDC = Central Bank Digital Currency
Basically governments using blockchain/crypto to create a digital £/$/etc where all transactions are tracked and controlled and they can stop you buying things if your social credit score drops too low or whatever.

Of all the things this is the least loony thing as various governments are actually looking at blockchain versions of central currencies, blockchains are open and easily trackable (unless like monero you design them explicitly to be private/anonymous) and it would I think be possible to do things like restrict what people can buy / where people can spend money / freeze people's accounts and things like that. You can do most of that easily enough with existing banking system but cash definitely has an element of anonymity and freedom which could be taken away with a pure digital currency run off a centrally controlled blockchain.
Probably not going to happen but not completely loon central like the idea that 15 minute cities are the creation of open air prisons where you aren't allowed to go more than 15minutes from home.

I don't fully understand the problems people seem to have.

There's a lot of 20 zones around here. I trickle along in third, its more or less tick over. What does frustrate me is the number of people who completely ignore it. I'll often find I've a stream of cars catching me up and tailgating me.

Through the village it is rare to find anyone obeying the limit, I've even seen police cars going through, in a queue of traffic, all of whom are speeding. What the point of the limit if it is going to be ignored and not enforced?

That mightn’t be such a bad idea, it’s clear that by obeying the limits I’m causing a tailback. Around here the biggest traffic problem is caused by the cycle clubs, but that’s for a different thread.
 
It's working fine. There's a minority of people ignoring it and they are now incredibly obvious. I've heard some moaning along the lines of not being able to overtake cyclists anymore, as if overtaking cyclists is compulsory. I've seen no signs of disaster, and when I use the car, haven't noticed any increase to my travel times.

What’s the cyclist issue, is the emissions their riding produces, must be horrible to have to breathe them in?
