39 dead in lorry container in Essex, October 2019

cant speculate on this incident really but many independent truckers spend their time cabotaging around the place picking up jobs wherever they can. .Once the refrig unit has cleared customs, any random could get the get to move it onto the final destination. the a/c can run for days detached in the newer units but obvs pumps out gases when it is standing as diesel usually.

The thing that makes me feel even more sick is thinking that these sort of things probably happen sometimes (not on the same scale) but may not be discovered/reported. Some proper scum involved in people trafficking.

Those who assume power ought to deal with it before It goes on and happens again. These Prime Ministers we keep getting tell us they are running the country, or is it just disguises they wear? I don't mean to put my foot in it on a serious thread. First off all respect to the dead, but more than that this situation is happening regularly (who really knows?) in our country.

So what kind of country is this? The kind that needs serious conversations about serious reforms? And have politicians lead and set a good example. Or do they play mischief and encourage the worst strains of nationalism to leave these people dead.

Current focus seems to be around the driver and in NI

Essex lorry deaths: Police continue to question lorry driver
The suspect remains in custody for questioning by Essex Police. Meanwhile, officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland have carried out raids on two houses associated with the arrested man - one in Markethill, County Armagh, and another in nearby Laurelvale. And the National Crime Agency said it had sent officers to assist and identify any "organised crime groups who may have played a part".

Truck came from Bulgaria but nothing on their national identity. Sounds like it won't be anytime soon either.

Horrid :(
I can’t believe they will have been in the truck all the way from Bulgaria. Too difficult, air, border crossings, waste.... Plenty of loading points Zeebruge way

Early reports mentioned the truck came from Bulgaria, but it turned out the truck was registered in Bulgaria, in 2017, left the day after and hasn't returned since. The Truck, whilst registered in Bulgaria, is Irish owned and came from Ireland to the UK.

The Trailer came on a ferry from Zeebrugge to Essex, they are still trying to work out its movements before arriving at Zeebrugge, they have no idea where the people came from or when they got on the trailer.

Zeebrugge is very close to Dunkirk, a town stuffed with refugees and migrants, and their concomitant people smugglers.

Guess we need to just let the cozzers get on with what must be a difficult investigation, they will get there in the end. The 58 Chinese at Dover in 2000, only one person was nicked in the UK, the driver. Really hope this tragedy marks a turning point and they go after the people smugglers on the Channel coast area and back in Africa and Asia too.

Mail are saying this
The container in which the migrants died was rented by an Irish haulage firm called GTR on October 15 from its site in County Monaghan. It was rented for a week for £240.

The company said it was co-operating fully with the UK police. A spokesman said it was 'gutted' the trailer had been used in this way. There is no suggestion that GTR has any connection to the deaths of the migrants.

Fucking Snakeheads. These cunts will still charge the families of the dead the cost of getting them into the UK.

Unless they've positively identified them, it's hard to see how they can know for sure that they are Chinese nationals. I wonder if it's more a case that they are 'of Chinese appearance' or similar.

Yeah, agreed. It seems unlikely they all had their passports in their pockets.

I'd imagine they'd have plenty of identifiable information on them: mobiles phones, wallets, letters etc. The fact that the authorities waited so long before announcing their nationalities suggests that they just didn't take a random guess.

There may also be clues in the set up linking them to established snakehead people smuggling techniques. Meaning they would almost all be from Fujian province in China.

Mad how for all its growth and new cities and decades of double digit growth and Shenzhen and all that shit... life in China is so still so shit for so many that this sort of thing still happens. It's a fucking disgrace.

I was just thinking this. Whilst the government spends trillions around the world building roads and airports etc for other countries this shit is still going on. I know they are not doing all that building work in different countries for altruistic reasons but still, if there is that much money sloshing around how come it is still so shit for so many?

Look on the bright side. Soon everywhere will be like China, so no more need to migrate.
