Your daily cat and kitten news

It's really interesting seeing the kittens in the context of wondering what Carrie is, Burmese, Tonkinese etc. She absolutely does not have that kind of bone structure or the bat ears, although her fur is not that short so it might be covering it up to an extent.

If she is one of the above I suspect it's backyard breeder attempt rather than as per book, or Siamese X mog.

They are stunning anyway.

You can have dogs DNA tested to see what breeds are in them so you can probably do the same with cats.

I dread to think what it would cost though!

I considered this. Dogs are more differentiated than cats as they've been bred by humans for various purposes for much longer. You can test cats but it's less precise.

More importantly it might blow the plausible deniability of having put moggy on her insurance form.

I think Carrie is either a Burmese or Tonkinese or a cross with one of those breeds - she's not angular enough to be Siamese, and her fur is quite dark in comparison - although a lot of that does depend on temperature, it looks like her fur was darker to start with, which points more to Burmese heritage (Tonks being a breed developed from both Burmese and Siamese, so also a possibility).
She's definitely not a regular cat though, I think if I were to describe her I'd say Burmese or at least Burmese x DSH cross. She's absolutely gorgeous and I am glad you found one another, it sounds as though you are a really good fit for each other :)

But yes, without any papers you are OK to describe her as a moggy for insurance purposes, like you say the DNA tests for cats are not as accurate as those for dogs, as although there are a few ancient natural breeds, most cat breeds have been created within the last 100-200 years and there's not a significant enough difference in DNA markers between them. The majority of cats are descended from their wild ancestors without being any particular breed. (I still think Carrie looks at least half Burmese however :D )

Strawbs in prime position earlier today. Close up flash washed out her colour unfortunately.

Carrie is the image of one of cats-next-door - also looks stunning and pedigree but classed as 'moggy'.

I thought Raisin next door was maybe a ragdoll cross, but TBH I know sweet FA about cat breeds.

I saved Raisin, her Bengal-looking sister and us from bad things by telling next door that they shouldn't let them out of the front as they were susceptible to 'napping. Which is true, but also road accidents and last but not least, them using our gravel front garden as a giant toilet. Win-win so far.

Anyway, Carrie and our neighbour's cat are beautiful - something about the markings and the blue eyes.

He loves the flea comb. I'd rather they just fell off him tbh.
Who remembers the stuff we use to use before spot on flea treatments became available?

I can remember using pyrethrum power which didn't so much kill the fleas as anaesthetise them and you'd have to bash them as they dropped off before they started to come round again. Then came Nuvan Top which was like nerve gas in an aerosol and got withdrawn from sale after a while as it was considered dangerous and finally Frontline in a spray bottle before they started putting it in pipettes.

Some people still put flea collars on their cats but I've never been keen on those.

The eagle has landed!

I went into the bedroom earlier to play some music so the fireworks were less obvious, even if they're not scared of fireworks per se I thought in a new home what sounds like being on a battlefield is not what you want when trying to settle in.
Anyway, I fell asleep.

When I woke up, it was like they'd discussed Next Steps, because they both emerged from under the curtain and started rubbing against my legs, rolling on my feet, and purring. :D
They were on the bed getting cuddles within minutes, all purry.
Ani is a bit fat and a bit nippy, I had to tell him No a couple of times.
Atty is a complete sweetheart and so so dainty and pretty.

Apparently not so shy after all, it's only been 3 days and a few hours since I brought them here, that's pretty good going.

:D 🐱

Atty is going to be a complete trip hazard, I've already accidentally kneed him in the face
Sonic was like that, I used to call him Captain Underfoot.
What's the rank below Captain? Commander Underfoot to refer to Atty? Or Commander InTheWay?

Look at this cute little face, what a sweet little bean (seriously the little white spot on his face looks like a tiny cannellini bean) :)

Ani being ridiculous and trying to trap me into touching his belly :D

(That is Atty's tail in the photo though, he was sitting off to 1 side. Ani's tail doesn't have tabby stripes and is mid-brown :) )
