Your daily cat and kitten news

There's one cat I don't see that often on my walk into town, and indeed didn't even pre-Covid, when I was doing the route twice a day. However I saw him today, and he (I hope) remembered me and came bounding up for a serious cuddle. This is a prime dog-walking area, and we lucky to have a couple of minutes together without being disturbed by lesser mammals.

I'm re-reading one of the Red Dwarf books and having owned cats now, I can say that the Cat is EXACTLY what a cat would be like if it was human. All they want to do is eat, sleep, groom themselves, fuck, and murder things.
I was watching Death In Paradise with Danny John Jules in it, and his character is JUST like the Cat! 🤣

Some progress this evening!
They are eating well now, scoffing down everything I offer them, even "in jelly" food

They had an evening play session out in the open while we were awake and watching, Atlantis running around with his doughnut toy in his mouth, much to N's delight.
I offered my hand out to Atty and he came over and had a good sniff, then meerkatted to have a good look at the top of the bed - I invited him up and asked if he wanted cuddles, he wasn't quite ready for that yet but I think we're nearly there.
Ani is a little behind him in terms of braveness, I think because he has been back and forth and this is a rehome situation for him. He was still happy to play while we were watching but slunk off quietly if we spoke to him.

Have some kitten tax (excuse the state of our bedroom, decorating and carpets never seem to quite make it onto the high priority list, I pulled off any loose or lifting bits of wallpaper before the kittens arrived so it looks a right state, but is at least safe):

Atty is the blue tabby point on the right, Ani the chocolate point on the left.

See, they've got shorter nicknames already :D

Lovely boys! Glad they're gaining confidence.

Are the new boys Siamese?

I love the bit in Better Than Life where the Cat's watching Cat TV and there's a panel show where a male Cat phones in to say he wants to commit to his partner, and the Cat panellists mock him and think he's a sick pervert.

Technically and officially, Anakin is a Siamese. Atlantis is an Oriental Bicolour (which is sometimes referred to as Seychellois when colourpoint markings are involved).

Siamese and Oriental are really the same breed though, they are just classified differently depending upon their coat colour and markings.
So what is essentially a Siamese but with white markings (like a tuxedo cat with white paws/tummy/chest/muzzle) like Atlantis is officially an Oriental as the white markings are not an allowed coat colour for Siamese.

They are all the same thing though essentially.

(If I was describing them to someone who was asking to be polite and show interest but probably not interested in the minutiae, I would just say they are both Siamese because it's easily understandable terminology and they look Siamese - when talking about them on this thread or on cat forums I am happy to go into a bit more detail as I figure some people at least are likely to find the distinction interesting- at least I hope so!) :D

Sounds like you've cracked it! It will be plain sailing from here on.

Don't worry about the state of the bedroom. One of the things I love about this thread (apart from the cats of course!) is knowing that other people's homes are just as imperfect as mine as the comfort of the cats will always come first.

Orientals remind me a bit of the Mael brothers from Sparks. I did wonder if they might be Orientals cos of the pointy ears.
Aye well Orientals and Siamese are both really the same breed but wearing different colour coats :)
And yes they have ridiculous ears and little long pointy faces :)

I find them utterly adorable ❤️

Popped into the bedroom just now to see how they are doing, and they weren't hiding, they were curled up together on our bed :D
Atty got up to move and I said it's OK stay there (I talk to them all the time even if they don't understand the words, the tone imparts information and intention) and backed out of the room as he was settling back down.

:D

So far only Atty has been very vocal - he has a little voice, this is common in Oriental Bicolours I think due to outcrossing - it is semi-Siamese in that he makes the same sorts of noises, but higher pitched and a bit quieter.
Sonic was a bit higher pitched than average also, but not as much so.
Atty can go on muttering about things for what seems like ages though, and he did spend some time on Sunday just crying and whining like a puppy, poor wee mite.

Ani apparently has a very typical deep Siam voice, although we've not heard it yet, he is supposedly very chatty when he gets going, so we're looking forward to hearing his voice :)

Ok, tips for getting fucking Felpreva on a deeply suspicious cat who runs away at the speed of light whenever he even thinks it's in my hand?

Am I going to have to wrestle him? Would rather not.
