That sounds more fun than being itchy :D

i thought it might be an affliction of the purr box

Cat is having his evening bath.
Nothing much to report here, he does it every day after the Long Afternoon Sleep.

He is diligent and thorough. He seems to really enjoy it. He goes slowly and keeps his eyes closed. He holds his hind ankle with his front paws, like a ballet dancer, to bring the leg up close to his face. He doesn’t do the violin thing with the leg in the air.

I always wonder how they clean the bits they can’t reach. I’ve never ever seen a cat clean the back of its own neck (presumably with the wetted paw).

Come to think of it, I’ve never seen Cat wash his ears either.

I lived with a cat who never washed where he’d be seen. It was always a private matter. Once in a while I’d enter a room when he was grooming and he’d stop and greet me elaborately, to distract me from what I’d seen.

I once lived with a cat whose secret delight was to lick the water out of the drained cleaned still warm bath tub. If anyone saw her, she’d freeze and stare. She didn’t want to be witnessed. We all got into the habit of apologising and retreating if we saw her.

How the fuck do they manage to train us to their ways so well?

Jakey is just an absolute slob, he very occasionally cleans his bits and will sometimes lick his paw and brush it over his face, but he doesn't groom the way most cats groom.
He's actually very un-cat-like in a number of ways, he's a bit defective bless his little heart.

I'm worried about Jakey this morning, he seems very doddery and a bit unsteady and he's weeing everywhere, moreso than usual.
I'm glad the sun is out, he's on his sunbed in front of the window with his eyes closed soaking up the rays, but he doesn't look massively comfortable.

I know I worry about him like this and post about it every couple of weeks or so, apologies.

I'm hoping he might perk up a bit later.

Hope he's OK. ((((Epona and Jakey))))

No need to apologise, we all know what it's like to worry about our feline friends.

Best wishes Jakey Epona x x come on Jakey get better.

Thank you, it's one of those things where he might just be feeling tired this morning or his knees are a bit achy or he's got a slight headache or something (stuff that we wouldn't normally panic over in ourselves) - so I'll see how he's doing later.
He's back on my lap under a fleece right now and seems quite relaxed.

I've just spotted that his lip is actually bleeding where his bottom fang is cutting into it (I think I've mentioned this before), I'm going to try to get a photo to show the vet.

EDIT: I don't know why he won't keep his head still when I am trying to take a photo, you can just see it here:

Vet says they can't really do anything about it at this point, because he'd need a GA to have the tooth causing it taken out, and that's not possible because he's ancient and his kidneys don't work.
I knew that already, I've rephrased my question as is there a topical treatment I could use to make it less sore and prevent infection.

I'm not going to lie, when they took all his other teeth out but the bottom 2 and I first saw him get his lip stuck on one of his bottom teeth, I did wish they'd taken those out too.

I probably should say I know the bottom canines are really difficult to remove, there's a real possibility of fracturing the jaw when those have to come out, so I understand why they leave them in if there's nothing wrong with the teeth themselves.

I think we have the first flea infestation 😬

What's the drill these days? Have they become resistant to Frontline?

I have never had any luck with Frontline, or any of those types of treatment. Mine wear expensive Seresto flea collars but they do work. I buy them online, where they're half the price they are at the vet.

(((Epona))) Don't apologise at all. That's what we are here for.

Cat is four years old. He was unbothered by the fireworks this year.

The first year he was quite jumpy. He’s been less jumpy each year.
He definitely looked to me for some kind of reassurance or information, checking in with me, looking up at me.

I did minimal reassurances and no cuddling or coddling. I’d mimic or imitate the fireworks. Not loud, just the same noises following each outburst. So I’d go “Pop! Pop! Weeee! Bang……..Bang…….” or whatever.

It occurred to me that if I acted like I couldn’t hear it, that might be confusing. So by imitating it, I was indicating that I could hear it and it had no meaning other than that I could hear it. It didn’t need any reaction from me.

No idea if that had any effect.

This year, there was a display very nearby and he looked up at me when there was particularly loud bang. I mimicked it, and that did seem to reassure him. He sighed and stretched out when I did it.
