Your daily cat and kitten news

Is he an indoor cat or does he go out? Lilith rarely uses her litter tray ever, and when she does it's just number ones. She generally prefers to do her business outside without me seeing, so I was wondering if that might be the case with Jocky.
He goes out, but ALWAYS comes in to use the litter tray, which pissed me right off but currently means I do know he's not going.

Is he still eating? If he is but hasn't 'been' for 5 days he must be getting pretty bloated by now.

Is taking him to the vet an option for you? There's a condition you rarely hear about these days called Key Gaskell Syndrome where the gut becomes paralysed so it might be wise to get it checked out.

Cat is holding my hand.

I’m sat here, and he came up behind me, laid down and stretched both arms around my hips in a hug. I reached back to pet him Hello and he’s slipped his paw into my hand. Purring.

I’ve just peered over my shoulder at him and he’s pointedly looking about as far in the opposite direction as it’s possible to physically manage without rotating yer head clean off.

Secret affection from the cat who don’t do affection

I was away for a few days, came home last night and then been out all day today.

Seems like he’s glad I’m back.

That's so sweet!

I have Covid, otherwise I'd be there already.
He's still eating yeh, the steroids are giving him fierce hunger.

Sorry, I didn't know you had covid.

I wonder if the steroids could be bunging him up?
No worries.

Vet said to watch out for the runs or vomiting, nothing about constipation. When I spoke to the receptionist, she seemed confused about it too. Internet doesn't mention it as a side effect either. I think it may be cos he's not now licking his fur off like a madman, therefore not wanting to drink as much.

He's always drank loads of water, but while he's been on the steroids, his thirst has decreased

Another dose of Laxapet and more cow milk, and still nowt. I'm still testing positive but with a fainter line, so just gonna mask up and take him. Booked in for 12.30 today.

Vets dealt with this all the way through lockdown, usually by doing a pet handover at the door and then phoning to have a discussion while the vet examines the animal if it's not advisable for you to be in a small consultation room with them.

Love to him and to you.

Good luck Sojourner and Jocky!

I hope it's something simple and easy to sort out sojourner . Or even better, nothing at all and he's just been tricking you.
Thanks both!

story , he's deffo not tricking me. I've had him for a year, and he has shit at least once a day every single day in his litter tray. He even rushes in from outside to shit in the tray, normally. I've just given him some cat milk (cos the fella was finally able to go the shops for it) and he's drunk loads of that. I do wonder if the steroids are giving him a bitter taste with the water...

Anyhoo, will report back later when my fucking wallet's been emptied again!

Thank you. I have a good mask, and my red line is nowhere near as thick as it has been, so should be reet.

They'll just palpate his abdomen and be able to tell you whether he's bunged up and needs treatment or whether the wee fella has been shitting somewhere on the sly.
I'm always somewhat amazed by the fact I can take my cat in and they'll just feel his belly and pretty much be able to tell me what is waiting to come out.
"Oh he's not as constipated as I'd expect from a cat in stage 4 CKD" was probably the best cat-related news I'd had that week :D

Success, FINALLY! He was constipated, and apparently steroids can cause that, but it's more usual for them to get the shits. Vet gave him an enema, said it'd take about 10 mins, left us in the room for it to take effect. He suggested putting our Jocks back in his carrier, which would make him more comfy after the upset of up-the-bum. Jocky duly went in, lay down, looking serene. Vet came in 10 mins later. "Anything?". No. Left it another 5 mins. Rinse and repeat twice over, nowt doing. I asked if he might be holding it in, as he only ever likes going in his litter tray. No, says the vet, they can't hold this in, it's impossible.

Anyway, eventually we left because I'd had no lunch. Vet said he'd definitely go on the way home.

15 mins later, we're home, no poo. Let him out the carrier, he went straight to the litter tray and shat for Britain :D Stubborn little bugger 😂

We've now got lactulose solution, which he's to have 3 times a day if normal shitting does not resume. Ch-CHING, another £81, another one JUST under my fucking excess, and then he's back abloodyagain next week!

Still though, I have a happier, if slightly disgruntled, lad

I bet he feel a lot lighter now!

The lactulose should do the trick as it's a stool softener....a bit like Dulcoease for cats.

I bet he does haha. Well, the Laxapet is also a stool softener, but the vet reckons the stuff he gave us today is stronger and will deffo get his bowels moving more often.

Tis weird though, how he's gone off drinking water, when normally I have to top up his bowl every day.

I've never been so happy to read about a load of cat shit 🥳 So relieved he's shat sojourner - also just to say that my insurer encouraged me to claim under the excess as it all goes in the pot towards my annual excess. No idea if this is standard but worth asking. And hope you're feeling better too x

Haha, cheers 😁

Oh really? I thought it was per treatment. I shall check that tomorrow then, thanks lovely!

It occurred to me last night that it is a year since I lost the old lady. :(

Gorgeous girl. You never stop missing them do you, I still think about my deceased ones every day and feel sad on their birthdays and anniversaries.
It does get a bit happier to remember them though, once the immediate pain of loss and grief subsides a bit.
You just get more used to them being gone.
