Successfully managed to remove a tick from Casper this afternoon

I think it's the first one of the year that I've had to unscrew. We've managed to catch, maybe, 4 or 5 that have just been on the cat slowly moving around looking for a place to bite, they look a bit like small black spiders

It must’ve only just latched on as I first noticed it yesterday and it's removed today. Horrible, disgusting, repulsive things that they are

Ticks give me the heebie-jeebies.

Back in the days when I use to go riding a lot there was a cat at the stables that seemed very prone to ticks and some of the ones on her looked like baked beans when they were full of blood. I use to take the Frontline spray (remember that?) with me and give the tick a blast of that to make it let go before tweezering it off as the people who owned the yard didn't seemed too bothered.

How's Jakey been getting on over the weekend Epona? "Wee blanket" still working out?
Thanks for asking, he's OK ta - the antibiotics seem to have done the job in terms of clearing up his bladder woes.
He's a bit off his food though, he's only got his 2 bottom fangs left and sometimes gets his top lip stuck the wrong side of one on of them on the left side of his face and it gets a bit sore, at the moment he's actually got a sore looking hole in his top lip where the tip of his bottom tooth has cut into it, I really must point this out to the vet next time we visit, I'm not sure what can potentially be done to remedy it, but as someone with a wisdom tooth that sometimes digs into the inside of their cheek, I have every sympathy for the poor fella.

The wee blankets/mats are working out very well for sofa protection if he pisses himself in his sleep, it helps that he always sleeps in the same place these days (where I sit on the sofa, he's there whether I'm sitting there or not!)
They're quite long so it's possible to position them to get 2 nights use out of them by turning them round. Or more use than that if he has a dry night.
I haven't tried washing one yet, will report back.
They are good for furniture protection if you have an incontinent pet that sleeps in one spot, and I imagine they are good for puppy training.

Also posting this in case it helps anyone else with giving medication:

Jakey is used to getting any pills in pill putty, usually he loves this and it's his treat time.
However, I've been having to give him 1.5 pills twice a day of the strong antibiotics he is on, once split the pill goes very crumbly and I've been squishing it into a bit of pill putty, but it must make the putty taste bad because he started rejecting it - just that half pill "treat", he's been taking all the whole pills in pill putty fine.

A big concern with this is that I don't want to put him off the pill putty that he takes his regular daily medication in.

I had a bright idea though, I have a pack of vitamin B12 from the vet in small gel caps, but I've been opening the gel caps to sprinkle the B12 on his food, he eats that no issue. So now I am using the emptied gel caps from the B12 to put his 1/2 pill of antibiotics in before wrapping it in the pill putty, and it's working a treat, the split pill no longer makes his pill putty taste bad because it's not gone all crumbly in the putty, it's all held in the gel cap as a barrier with the unadulterated pill putty around the capsule.

So I think I might buy a pack of small gel caps for future use in this manner.
(I'm using ones that held B12 supplement for cats which is harmless and I'm giving him the powder from them on his food anyway, but obviously it could be harmful to use ones that had held other medications, so buying a small amount of empty ones for future use with pets is the safe option).

He's elderly and has some age related health issues, but he's still "with it" and happy, and giving him these mats that if he wees on them in his sleep aren't going to leave him wet and stinky, and are warm to curl up and sleep on, is good for his welfare and comfort in this final bit of his life.
I'm still contemplating getting some Vetfleece to put on top for extra comfort (fluids just go straight through that, so it would provide an extra layer of comfort on top).

Glad the antibiotics are working for him, but sorry to hear about his tooth, that must be painful. Hope the vet can do something about that!

Even in old age he's a handsome boy. I bet he was stunning when he was younger.

Jocky is constipated. Not shit for at least 3 days. Gonna try him with a teeny bit of Laxapet tomorrow. My lass said it worked a treat for her old boy.
Is he straining to go but nothing coming out? If so, he may have got a blockage somewhere. One of my cats did this years ago and when the vet gave him an enema a whole fish head came out so he must have been raiding someone's bins.

You can give cats the human drug lactose. I know the maintenance dose for cats prone to constipation is 2 mls a day but he'd need something stronger than that so best to run it past the vet first.

Carrie is being much more chilled about her midnight - 7am curfew than I expected. I thought she'd be shoulder-charging the catflap at 3am but no.

I think partly because it's getting colder, but also I've thought from the start that it's a mixed blessing having garden access because she feels obliged to patrol and defend it.
