Your daily cat and kitten news

Woke up to mayhem this morning. The two of them playing together perfectly! Beautiful kittenish fun/chaos and both of them giving as good as they get..!

So it looks like they have adjusted together but do I leave them like this or separate them when I go to work. I had thought I'd watch how they got on all day tomorrow and then decide but...?

I've kept them apart - For one more day. There was one brief point last night when Kitten-1 was getting tired and was a little bit gnarly towards the little one. After this morning's joy, hopefully she'll be better adjusted by tomorrow or Sunday and I can leave them unsupervised together.

Kitten-2 was fairly crying with indignation when I shut her out from her pal and left though. :(

She's has plenty to keep her amused, incl toys, her own bed, litter tray and a cat tunnel, plus the dry food auto-feeder and she had polished-off a dish of wet food before I left. So all the basics are catered for.

The other good thing is that she is happily going in and out of the big litter box without causing ructions and Kit-1 doesn't seem to mind her using her water dish or the dish of dry food I put-out to her beside her wet-food feeder, which she only eats a little from. So that looks good for them sharing together - and means I can get rid of the litter tray in the hall!

I applied to adopt a British Shorthair today but apparently I'm too near the high street for them to give me a male cat.
Is it under some weird notion that female cat don't have a territory to patrol?

Did you ever see the documentary about the research in Weimar the looked at where house cats go when they roam?

Our further-down-the-road neighbour's lovely ragdoll, who would wander all the way up the road to our end, was run over and killed a few days ago. :( Everyone on street whatsapp is gutted.

A very beautiful but not very bright cat.

I am glad Vastra does not venture out front much, as it's quite a risky street for a cat to cross, with cars parked up either side,

Ah, sorry to hear that. Your neighbour must be gutted.

Woke up to this:

:)

That is dominance behaviour from the fluffy black one!
Frantic grooming like that is "I'm the adult and you're the infant" type message.
The wee stripy one accepted it without fuss, so that's great - they will have different areas and situations where one is dominant over the other, and the fact they are sorting out their standing with one another and not scrapping over that sort of dominance display is really good :)

If it were me, I'd still consider keeping them separate when unsupervised if there is a big size difference - when I got Sonic, Radar was 6 months older and I caught him trying to shove baby 15 week old Sonic behind the fridge - that resolved itself OK once Sonic was more equal in size and able to tell Radar to fuck off :D

There is only about ten days between them and although the black one is bigger, I think her fluffy coat makes the difference more marked. Sgarba has a very short/sleek coat. When the little one has had enough, she does tend to come and snuggle up beside me, whilst Diùra either snuggles behind my knees or retreats to the top of the cat tree.

They had been having a wild and happy play fight for some time before.

I'm off for the next four days now, so able to keep a better eye on their interaction. :)

Bella and Beauty [dog & triped cat] have been interacting a little more as Bella gains her confidence.
However, yesterday morning could have got very interesting when Bella decided to sit in Beauty's night bed, and not just once, either !
Must keep the camera handy, as I've missed the action.
Beauty gave her a death stare but no other reaction ... I think she still misses the cuddles she could give her "uncle" Ben de-Dog and the washes she sometimes got in return.
