Your daily cat and kitten news

I'm sorry pogofish but they're both so unbearably cute I've lost the power of naming. Can only come up with twee suggestions like "Chip" "Chirp" "Pippit" "ickle" "precious" etc etc etc. Remember you're likely to have to go shouting their name(s) in public repeatedly when/if they escape and go missing though. This is why my fantasy 3 future cats will be named Bruv, Cuz and Fam.
My friend got an Alsatian cross puppy that had really bad alopecia that he named Alla.
He then moved from rural Norfolk to a heavily Muslim area of Manchester and wondered why people were giving him funny looks when he called her name in the park.

Okay people, hit me up with your recommendations for treating carpets for fleas. Jocky is 10 days off his Felpreva application but I've ordered more and will pick up tomorrow. But I have one bite on my ankle and 5 on my knee (where he sits), so the carpet will need treating too.

Kitten-2 seems to be settling-in, she was a lot more relaxed and playful this morning, purring to strokes and showing more curiosity in her new environment, following me around as well.

Still a little concerned that she hasn't eaten very much since yesterday, so I've left her with a little buffet of every different type of food I have in the house but before I left, she did lap-up some small-chopped bits of roast beef, mixed-up with a creamy kitten treat - which she loves and she has used her litter tray overnight, so I presume she's drinking enough water and the settling-in continues.

Kitten-1 has no such problem. I was awakened by her at 5am with full-on zoomies and by 6, she had worked out that she can pounce on me from the very highest point on the cat tree and its a soft landing, so she climbs back-up and does it again. Then she watches the garden outside, intently and spends time carefully (and loudly) rearranging the litter in her box. She also consumed all of Kitten-2s uneaten food, as well as her own and took to the timed feeder instantly.

I'm setting-up a timed feeder for Kitten-2 tonight, she's more of a dry-food cat, so its working-out quite nicely.

I've had a really hard day at work and had to lie down and they both came to hang with me.

Odins been really ill, picked up an infection, wasn't eating and barely moving. But a few days of fluids and antibiotics and he mostly back to normal. It's been really upsetting, he's such a sweet friendly cat and he's been following me round more then normal as he recovers.

I think Katniss can pick up he's still not quite right and has tried to assert dominance. She might regret that if she keeps trying.

He looked so shabby after a few days with the vet and not grooming himself so I got his favorite brush out Sunday night.

Poor love, I hope his recovery continues apace and he is back to his old self soon

Yes a speedy recovery for Odin hopefully!

Kizzy finally started antibiotics yesterday and was very dozy, at one point coming over to me and making a weird noise and looked like she was almost struggling to breathe

She did get better and sat on my lap doing almost weird gulps/burps!!
Was back to normal later on and does seem better today
On the bed this morning guarding my jeans :D

And the answer was - A different kitten food. She's eaten loads tonight! :D

Kitten 2 is much more at home now. Much more confident, very friendly - copious purrs, little head bumps, kneading me, rubbing against me, climbing on my feet and sitting there, following me about and she has quite a turn of speed, incl the ability to get past me unseen at great speed. Definitely cheeky, esp around Kit-1.

She's definitely the more vocal of the two cats, with a surprisingly loud/piercing meow, despite Kit-1's thunderous purr.

I'm still keeping them apart but tonight they both played happily together with me, chasing a toy around in turns and pouncing near each other over a cat tunnel. Only the occasional hiss but no fighting.

Then after a little rest, I shared a treat with them and they took their turns happily enough. She also took a raid on K1-s food and had a quick explore of her litter tray, to some bemusement.

Kitten-1 of course is also really friendly and also playful/loves strokes and has discovered another soft but totally camouflaged vantage point, where she can dive out on me from! :D

I've never really known a cat to fart until Jakey went on to low protein (high wheat and veg content) renal food to protect his kidneys.
Some days are worse than others but he's just gassed me.
I think the worst one he's done yet was when Spain scored their last goal in the Euro finals, it was almost perfectly timed :D

On the plus side, he has started eating a bit better - we ended up with some food from somewhere, not sure whether vet or our usual supplier, that had a really strong smell that I could detect and it seems to have been that putting him off.
It didn't make him unwell, just unwilling to eat it. I wonder whether they've changed the ingredients for the chicken flavour one, or if the vet isn't storing it in a cool enough place or something.
Anyway my new delivery of the beef flavour food is being wolfed down.

The kittens coexisted happily in the same room as me for the last hour or so last night and again this morning. Exploring/playing, coming-up to sit on me for attention and then finding spots for themselves.

And this morning, Kitten-1 was watching intently and wanting to play-hunt Kitten-2, whilst Kit-2 is showing all the signs of wanting to be friendly behaviour. So I'll maybe give it another night or two, then I'll leave the door open, so they can go in and out of each other's space.

Kit-2 is now also set-up with her automatic feeder and before I left, had already cleared the small dish of wet food I put out when I put-out Kit-1's feeder, so that's good! :D

I never choose a name for my cats, I just let it develop. See what you start calling it, then work from there.

My favourite name for one of my cats was Flumf. It was fun to say "floooomf", it was kind of sweet, a bit like fluff, but it was actually an acronym. Freaky Little Ugly Mother Fucker. ;)
We once had a cat called Wuzzy Wuzzy as it's what our elderly neighbour called all cats so we thought just for once she'd be right.
