Your daily cat and kitten news

Glad to hear she's feeling better. Maybe she just felt slightly unwell after the vaccine, that's a thing that can happen.
Yeah, the vet said they would report it as a potential adverse reaction to the vaccine in absence of anything else showing up.
Glad to hear she is recovering well!

I should just add about the vanilla - make sure to use a food grade extract for baking, not an aromatherapy type essential oil, as the latter will be a lot stronger and could irritate the skin and be toxic if ingested.
cheers and yeah don't worry, I know essential oils are to be avoided :) Plus I will actually use vanilla extract in food (I just need to check what I've got is natural, which it probably is)

Sorry to hear that Frida has been unwell, hope she feels better soon.

In terms of their relationship, Frida smells of the vet clinic, which is why Rosa is reacting badly to her, she simply doesn't recognise her as Frida any more, and the smell has bad connotations.

Step 1: rub Rosa with a towel, or if she has some bedding that she lies on a lot, use that. Then rub Frida with it. This will transfer some of Rosa's scent to Frida.

Step 2: There's this thing called "The Vanilla Trick". For this you must use a natural vanilla extract, not the little chemically vanilla essence bottles, I'm talking the more expensive natural extract stuff which should also be in the baking aisle of the supermarket.
Dab a little bit under each of their chins. Vanilla is safe and non-toxic for them, they also find it a pleasant scent, and it tricks them into thinking they both smell the same and pleasant to one another.

Step 3: If the above don't work - keep them separate for a few days, and try re-introducing them gradually as if you were introducing a new cat to the household.

Good luck :)

Well I managed a quick rub with the bedding Rosa had been sleeping on - hope I got it the right way up! Not sure I transferred any smell but will have more goes at this.

With the vanilla extract, I tried getting it on her chin but I think more on cheeks as she wouldn't let me rub her chin (she doesn't generally) and then maybe some on her back as I stroked her there afterwards. Obviously she'll lick off any on her back easily. Can I ask cos I don't have a sense of smell, how often should I be re-applying the vanilla extract around her chin/face?
Rosa also had a good sniff of my fingers just after putting the vanilla extract on Frida so might cross associate the vanilla smell with me (she's quite happy with me) as well.

Might have had a slight effect as they were close to each other this morning as Rosa didn't hiss, sat there for a bit and then went outside which isn't happy but maybe a bit less unhappy than before. I'll see how it goes as I really don't want to trap frida in a single room again if I can avoid it, and Rosa's coming back in for food etc, and mostly they separate themselves with Frida upstairs and Rosa downstairs, it's just when Frida goes to eat (which is often and little at the moment, which is good cos otherwise she'd be throwing it up I'm sure)

Sorry, I really should have put up some photosIMG20240118145513.jpg
Frida (the sick one) sleeping downstairs, was in the sun when she fell asleep there I think...

Rosa sleeping upstairs.

Close encounter this afternoon involved some sniffing then went outside but no hissing which I'll take as an improvement

local councillor (lib dem) called round this afternoon - they are treating this as a target 'blue wall' seat so they are quite keen.

downstairs kitty was outside on the porch (front door to my upstairs flat is almost next to downstairs' front door) and she heckled quite a lot.

she's done that before when a lib dem came round.

not sure if she disapproves of the lib dems or all politicians - tories don't bother to come round here as it's a council estate, and think labour have given up here...

Update on the triped.

Biggest achievement - Beauty has discovered a method to get up on the sofa, although we haven't seen her sleep up there, yet.
next - she'll take strokes / head stritches from all four of us and she's getting her purr back, sometimes quite loudly.
Her sleeping positions now include the curled up "cushion" in addition to the "loaf" ...
She seems to have quite a friendship developing with our dog, now quite elderly, they have a bit of a competitive streak when it comes to getting treats / it's food time - as in; who can get the humans to move first. So much so that she's also getting the nickname "push-cat" !

Now for a question - background;
She's been overgrooming the various wound sites [both from what looks like a dog-mauling or fighting with a spiking hedge, and the various medical intervention locations] and been pulling out quite large chunks / scabs as the holes have healed.
We've treated for worms & fleas, which has largely stopped the chewing at her fur.
However, she has a few bald spots - although she has reduced the licking and the spots aren't as red as they have been.

My question is how do I distract her from overgrooming ?
Especially as she's not really a playing with toys cat, nor does she bliss out on catnip.
Being basically a stray/farm/feral cat, we still can't handle her like you would a full pet.

Some extra images to publish later today - hopefully - on here *W!P* oad[B] - Beauty [previously "Cat 'E'"]

Came back from the shops to find Harvey, from over the road had broken in. He complained loudly when I escorted him away from his booty

I sent his current keepers this pic (he's had 4 keepers in this street now, people move, but Harvey remains as he prowls round all the houses eating everything he can) and they sent this back

This was from last night, when they caught him in a bowl of chilli
