Wolf Hall 1&2

Oh, lordie, another one from my book group I couldn’t get along with. Master and Commander. Couldn’t finish that one either.

You should join my old book group.

Might be a bit far…

But I’ve read the whole Aubrey/Maturin series of novels three times. They are just amazing- even though O’Brian completely fucked up the timeline so that 1812 has to last about three and a half years because he started it too late in the war….

I’d definitely give them another day. The film is actually not bad, though doesn’t really get the feel of the books it still works as its own thing.

I avoided it for fear that it did, but I’m encouraged. 😉

They turned it into a quite a good, action film loosely based on the plots of the first two ( or maybe three) books. I’d recommend it . But Bridge of Spies is better.

To be fair, I don’t like action films. Or Russell Crowe. So it won’t be for me.

Bridget Jones’ Spiary might be worth a shot though.

The books are magnificent. The He stuff got a bit annoying in the first one, but she realised that and toned it down. But she captured the individuals so well, really breathed life into the times. Just wonderful.

The series, in comparison, is merely very very very very good. I mean, it's bloody great but could never match the detail and depths of the tomes. The interrogation scene was wonderfully done in that last episode but could never capture the length, the absurdity and the fear the relevant chapter held.

We've got the lot recorded still, so I will look forward to sitting down and rewatching the lot at some point.

I don’t fancy it.
What's Up, Doc? is on this Saturday, a much better use of one's time (and you'll get about 80 mins back back as it is not as interminable as Gladiator)

If I'm going to watch a Scott I'd pick The Duellists, another (better) film that clocks in at under 2 hours - from a time when editors clearly told directors to shut the fuck up and cut stuff.
