Wow, urban 75 way out of touch with the people yet again. I thought the yes vote would have been an easy win.

Wales has a lot long to wait. :(

I voted no, for what I see as entirely rational reasons. Few sore losers on FB today ("anyone who voted no should be ashamed of themselves", etc) who can't seem to tolerate a different opinion.

Because the only stable settlement would be a federal UK. We won't get that. The wrangling and instability caused by asymmetric devolution will lead to further constitutional crises. We can already see that the referendum promises are unravelling; the Westminster backbench backlash is under way.
The only balanced settlement would be a federal uk, I agree. I also agree that we're unlikely to get it. But we are likely to get some kind of fudge, which may or may not include a nod towards federalism.

I think you may be underestimating the durability of unstable solutions. Northern Ireland is a highly unstable 'solution' that has endured for nearly a century now.

We are going to get a settlement that fucks Scotland. I would not be surprised if the Scottish Parliament is dissolved in twenty years. At the very least, it will be the target of venom from the patriots in England and their press for the next ten years. Northern Ireland has had three maybe four 'unstable' solutions that resulted in bombs, explosions, and human rights abuses. Pretty bad example, to be honest.

It wasn't intended to be something pretty. Just durable. Scotland is nothing like Northern Ireland, and I see no reason why unbalanced devolution settlements can't follow one after the other for a long time into the future.

I can't see the Scottish parliament being dissolved in the foreseeable future. And I doubt it will be a target of venom from the Tories in England or the English press. For most of the time, the Scottish parliament is more or less ignored by the English press.

I have no faith in Westminster, they will serve their own interests. Our young people have no future, we will have to watch leadership debates at the next General Election and get the anti-immigration rhetoric thrown in our faces for decades. Oh, and having to put up with the patriot London crew giving their half-baked analysis from a guy who spent three weeks reading tweets about Salmond being passed off as an authoritative 'Scottish political expert'.

The GE 2015 will be about "New Britain", a Soviet-style advertising campaign with embarrassing cosmetic "constitutional reforms" which do nothing but entrench power. And Michael Forsyth. Michael Forsyth every fucking week.

Better Together celebrations in Glasgow.

This is all anecdotal, but bear with me. I've heard a few stories from people who were at the building I work at that was used as a polling place on Thursday. Quite a few adult first-time voters didn't go in because no-one had walked them through what they were supposed to do once inside the building - go up to the table, hand over card/give name and address, get the ballot paper, go into a booth, make the mark, put it in the box etc. It was maybe only a couple of handfuls of voters, but that's something that needs addressing I think

It's amazing that anyone has ever worked out what to do. It's almost as if there is no one there to ask or observe.

For some people it was a major thing to even get involved enough to be registered to vote. I know I'm being vague as fuck, and that's deliberate, but some of the groups signing up new voters didn't really follow through to the actual voting experience. That's all.

It is. Very reminiscent of Rangers supporters at their worst. Last time I looked at the RT live feed on Youtube the police were hearding a dozen or so diehards and they were singing 'we are the billy boys' :(

Posted this on the other thread.

Was in George Square about 3:30 this afternoon. A few people about but pretty quiet. SWP and SP stalls and a guy singing and playing the guitar. The pubs round about were pretty busy though.

Just spoke to my sister who ended up round there 7ish on her way to Central. According to her, people singing the sash, burning saltires, youngish kids draped in union jacks. Police everywhere. :(
