Will Gary Lineker be presenting Motd on Saturday?

Yeah Braverman choosing to go after Lineker this week has surely backfired. How many more people are now aware of facts like the one about the number of refugees the UK takes compared to others?

Ha, I just totally misread that and was like what, she's just resigned? :D

Jesus Christ are you absolutely determined to miss the point?

I have not read, and have no interest in reading what he said.

My objection to how much Lineker is paid is well documented on here, I've made my view known more than once.

To pay someone more than a million pounds of extorted money to present a football program is utterly obscene.

Hopefully Lineker et al will go for good, to be replaced at a much more reasonable salary.

The fact that my license fee contributed to Lineker's obscene salary made my blood boil.
The world must be a strange and confusing place for you Sas. You're a terrible old Tory who's therefore in favour of a deeply unequal society yet you're horrified that things cost lots of money in restaurants and TV personalities get paid shedloads. It's how capitalism works. I think your heart's telling you you're a socialist really. It's not too late for you; come on over and resolve your upset and confusion.

This has been incredible. Both the BBC’s idiocy and the fantastic solidarity shown by the presenters and commentators. I hope they do backtrack, because I’d like to think it would give others hope of what can happen when you all stick together. But also because if we lose football on the BBC, we lose another way people can watch it without having to pay over the odds to Sky and BT Sport, and that’ll be a real and negative loss I think.

I have no interest in football. I wouldn’t know which way up to hold one. This is not a football story. This is not a Gary Lineker story. This is a story about the government thinking it can silence criticism of its sickeningly inhumane policy of making applying for asylum essentially illegal. It is about the government using language that dehumanises and vilifies vulnerable people in desperate situations. Lineker called that out. The government objected. The BBC - fresh on the heels of censoring a David Attenborough programme for fear of government objections - behaved in a way that only amplified the point Lineker was making.

The government and the BBC want this to be a “Lineker furore”. It isn’t. It’s an callous and inhuman government furore.

That's not the topic of this thread though. Start a new one if that's what you want to talk about. Although why you need to keep swinging the hammer despite admitting yourself that the nail is already well in is beyond me. I do notice though, that people only tend to complain about someone's salary when they disagree with their sentiment. Clarkson made more at the BBC than Lineker does now. Were you relentlessly off topic outraged about that too?

When I worked at BBC Studios (the private bit), we were regularly reminded that we were not allowed to publicly comment on any political issues.. we all ignored this, especially the freelancers. When Grenfell happened we all got the same reminder email. Loads of people kicked off, they lived locally, had kids who went to school with kids who died. The unions threatened to strike.. consequently the language around this was softened..

2-0 you tory jambo cunt.

The one thing Lineker is known for, even if you don't know anything else about his career, is that he was never booked. To think he doesn't know the fine detail of his contract now, to avoid breaking the rules, is ludicrous. Goody two shoes innit.

Also, if someone is sharing their opinion on him, while saying they have no interest in what he said, then that probably means they know they'll disagree with him.
