Who are you supporting?

tbf Berlin still isn't a real representation of Germany although it's becoming more gentrified (German) each year. I lived there for 10 years through the 90s and the most decent Berliners (& settlers from other German regions there to avoid national service) usually always loath the German national team and go for the underdogs.
Go anywhere else in Germany and, as previously mentioned, the average Germans' arrogance towards football will soon turn you into an ABG.

Me: 1.England 2.Ireland 3.ABG

I think the only time I spoke to anyone about football over there was when I was getting the train to Fusion festival after being up all night at Tresor. There was a lad on the train who supported Hertha Berlin, he was about 9 and going swimming with his school class. Good lad, although he'd never heard of Swindon Town.

Been finding it hard to support engerland recently, mainly becasue i dont like the players (on a personal level), but it looks like there'll be some new faces this time. aside from england:

Italy are 14/1 to win... I'll be putting £10 on them, and supporting them to the hilt - which will mean a lot of tongue biting over Balotelli (and the rest)

I think Germany will win it though...will put a tenner on them to cover myself....but won't really support them...purely mercenary bet that one.

Soft spots for Ireland, Poland and Greece.

Italy should be about 20-1 imo, terrible warm up results and if you want an outside bet Russia are better value .

My take on it is that teams like Italy Brazil and Argentina dont like to break a sweat at friendlys, warms ups or qualifiers - one year Brazil nearly didnt qualify they played that badly at those stages (just squeezed in after a result not of their making)...they went on to win the World Cup. The difference between these top footballing countries and England is that when it is necessary they switch into professional football mode, something I havent seen England capable of in years, i.e. play calmly, pass the ball around, defend tightly, keep possession, win a game with confidence - England play with an air of desperation about them I find. Some people say its weight of expectation... not sure if thats it though.

I won a nice sum on Italy to win the World Cup in 2006 (when again the odds were high and they were written off by the pundits from the start), so I'm not about to wobble. Cant comment about Russia though.

Since spending quite a bit of time over the last 5 or 6 years visiting friends in Berlin, I have now softened in my approach to the German national team.

I was living in Germany when Euro 96 was on and watched the England Germany semi final in the pub with my best German mate who had told me he didn't really support the German national team as they were all West Germans and he was an Ossie. That all changed when it came down to the penalty shoot out, both of us shouting out for our team when they scored. He had the last shout. :(

England (if Terry gets his head stamped on in the first game) - otherwise Ireland, and then Poland. And then anyone but the Germans. :)

The England manager is there to pick the best team. Terry is the best English centre half, therefore he has to play - as he will.

I picked Germany (randomly) in the work sweep-stake. So I guess I'm supporting Germany. Go on you Huns!!! ("Hun" isn't politically incorrect or anything nowadays, is it?)

Since when have England managers picked the best team?! Anyway, racist cunts exclude themselves from selection

I'd rather have a team and a squad that work together than being captained by someone who shouldn't even be there. Rio should definitely be there on footballing grounds alone.

They should be there together. Terry is clearly good enough to be there. Capello would have picked him and so has Hodgson.

England, because I'm English. All the way to the winners podium.

Yeah, right. As if thats going to happen!

I shall be following Portugal as an ex resident there. Although I am not sure, after the Germany game, we will go far.

How things change on the day of the game- I actually do really want us to win today, rather than not really being bothered and thinking 'it'd be nice if we won' or something.

England, reluctantly.

But having just got back from Crete, I'm making Greece my second team - mainly because the people out there were fab. I don't know how much the mainland differs, but I fell in love with the national attitude of the Cretans. A wonderful combination of uber-laid-back and angry anarchism.
