Where are you on the transport network?

Looks like Gatwick, if so one of my closest friends on earth is the station manager for Emirates and could have upgraded you.

Unless it’s not Gatwick, or, more likely, you wisely purchased a first class ticket to start with…

Fuck me, that's shit. WTF are Emirates doing using that shithole of an airport? Regardless of what class I was on or how much I paid for my ticket, if flew long haul on a prestige airline to a major city with multiple airport choices, I certainly wouldn't expect to land at hideous, badly connected monstrosity like STN is.

I heard it's due to corrupt practices at Gatwick, where Emirates staff have been giving away freebies to friends and family.

Only ever flown them from Hong Kong to Manila and back, first class both ways, on full-fare tickets too. Was very nice though.

My understanding is it has its unique market (Cambridge science park) as well as being a further option for London.

Even better as the M11 was closed!🙁

And the dockyard stacked 20 ft high high with freezers, air conditioning units and air fryers (!) for loading on them to go down the gulf and across to India and Pakistan apparently.

Around the World in 80 Days with Michael Palin, he took one across to India, was the best part of the series to watch and clear that to him the most emotional part of the whole trip too.

That was brilliant. It would be great to do that trip. ( or maybe to have done that trip!)

40 years ago I used to night-stop in a hotel overlooking the creek in Dubai and loved to walk along and watch them load the dhows with the most incredible cargoes of loose freight and passengers. It was much less tidy then and the dhows had masts. It was like stepping back 50 years. A surprising number of the dhow crews spoke fair English. The hotel had a very good selection of Nueva Beaujolais every year too.

I am at New Cross. When I tried to use my Oyster card to enter. I was told to seek assistance. There wasn't any, and the gates were open, so I got on. As it is an oldie's card, the only reason for it to be invalid would be if I were getting younger, which seems unlikely.

The gates won't be open at Waterloo, though, so I don't know what will happen.

Do they still do the annoying ‘you can only order food from your phone’ thing?

Not that I’ve been to that many business lounges, but BA’s at T5 is by far the most underwhelming.

Madrid flights are now departing from T3, and my OH discovered recently that you can go into other One World lounges with a BA ticket (never knew that!) She said the American Airlines lounge on T3 was ludicrously better than the bog standard BA lounge on T5 in every respect.

Hi, no it's back to a pre-pandemic state with the only legacy that I could see were fading stickers on the tables prompting one to scan the QR code. Full on buffet now.

I'd heard about Terminal 3's reputation but have yet to experience it.

I'll agree Terminal 5's lounge could be better but it was still a lovely place to pass the time. It was insanely busy and we had to queue to enter it.

On the way back we were flying out of Frankfurt Terminal 2. It seems that British Airways don't deign to have a lounge there. Instead we had access to Japan Airlines' Sakura Lounge. That was a lot more 'meh' but not remotely busy.
