I have spent more of my life waiting at Basingstoke station than I care to remember. Never before at 2.45 in the morning. View attachment 363581
The taxi/bus replacement was a complete shambles. I left Basingstoke at 4 on a coat and got home at 5 in the morning.BB1 was stuck there on Monday night, just abandoned by the train company.

Lovely station isn’t it! Been there a couple of times on work things.Don't think I've been here before. Feels like being on a preserved railway.

rail replacement buses are a bit of a lottery at the moment - bus and coach operators have hardly got enough drivers to do their regular work at the moment...

We need one tomorrow, with a wheelchair and two dogs. SWR says dogs are not allowed...
I'd also suggest making contact first if someone's travelling with a wheelchair - i'm not quite sure that the rules about accessibility / wheelchair access have fully got as far as rail replacement buses / coaches.
Do they still do the annoying ‘you can only order food from your phone’ thing?View attachment 363665In the Business Class South lounge at Terminal 5.
Given Bahnhof Strasse's pictures of the Concorde Room I'm feeling like veritable peasant.
But, life is good. The flight's delayed. So we have to keep getting more value from here.
Oh yeah? Interesting. Not that I move in such circles other than very occasionally anyway.T3 lounge tour is very much a thing for those in the know. Some people even book specifically to fly from T3.
There’s a BA, AA, Cathay and Qantas lounge which can all be accessed. If I was flying from T3 in business class I’d be trying to visit all of them if there was time. The Ba one is probably best avoided if only as it’s likely to be the same thing as over in T5.Oh yeah? Interesting. Not that I move in such circles other than very occasionally anyway.
Does BA has a lounge there too, or do they send their pax to partner airlines’ lounges? Other than Madrid I am not aware of other BA flights departing from T3, so hardly worth I guess.
And how have they already run out of space at T5?? Far more so as they’re still not even at fault pre-pandemic levels…
Do you mean you’d be allowed to visit more than one lounge in the same trip out of LHR? That’s something else I didn’t know! There’s a BA, AA, Cathay and Qantas lounge which can all be accessed. A similar lounge tour is possible at Hong Kong airport if flying one world using the cathay pacific lounges (I did 3 or 4 of them during an 11 hour layover in which I drank rather a lot of champagne)
Yep. It’s allowable; and you can do similar at T2 if flying on star allianceDo you mean you’d be allowed to visit more than one lounge in the same trip out of LHR? That’s something else I didn’t know!
Well, next time I’m on business from T3 I’ll make the point to go through security as early as allowedYep. It’s allowable; and you can do similar at T2 if flying on star alliance

They could do an Alan Partridge series where he goes around comparing different airport lounges and talking about the technicalities of which ones certain tickets give access to.
Agreed. Partridge would be a good representation of the type who gets excited about airport lounges. Whereas Michael Portillo is not a proper rail enthusiast.Better Partridge than some fascist, death-penalty supporting, failed tory scumbag in lairy trousers banging on about trains.
That's the short bit of line between the junction and the town isn't it
Yes, I believe it claims to be the shortest railway line in Europe or something. That's the short bit of line between the junction and the town isn't it
I rode that line in 2006, it might have been the old carriage then. As I recall I was the only passenger but there was a driver and a guard and I found it all rather surreal.
