Unusual modes of transport you have used.

They can have their moments tbf. You've probably been left swaying as some berk has fallen off or not got on ...

Absolutely. Except I was the berk.

I didn't get off in time in Chamonix and went around the pulley and started going back down again. There's a safety bar that your legs hit and it stops the whole thing. Then a bloke comes along and drags you unceremoniously off the chair.

I got caught unawares and was pushed onto one by an overenthusiastic attendant in Flaine when I was on a school trip. Lasted about three seconds before I dropped about 4 foot into the snow. Prick then started having a go at me before my teacher turned up and used a bit of French I'd not heard in her lessons. :D

What on earth were the others?
Just in Rhyl there was the Marine lake miniature railway, The fun fair had a log flume and later a Pepsi Loop, plus Donkey rides on the beach.

People used to travel for miles to visit the Sun Centre, it was probably at its peak one of the biggest attractions in the north west. Prestatyn’s Nova centre was pretty rubbish in comparison.

I don't think I've been on a suspended monorail but I have been on the Bangkok one, thinking about it. It's about the only way you can avoid the gridlock some days.
If you fly into Tokyo at Haneda the monorail might be the first Japanese public transport you'll take - it was for me - as it runs from the airport into the city and is a great way of seeing the city for the first time.

There was nothing like that in Pwllheli. Or anywhere in Llyn. There weren’t even real monsters in the sea caves in Criccieth. If you wanted fun, there were mountains.

We’ve used all sorts but probably the most unusual were the amjad in Sudan. They’re basically a small van with seats something like this, but not so well looked after.

They're called dolmus in Turkey. Modern ones are mostly transit vans now but back in the day they were like your picture.

I once shared one with a bloke with 3 crates of chickens.

You need to get yourself down to Headcorn spitfire my Dad lives near there and you hear the wonderful sound of those engines quite a bit as they do flights in the double seater variant. Expect they’re quite pricey though

The ones at Classic Wings in Duxford are £2.8k, I used to volunteer for them, that's when I sat in the Spitfire but no freebies were forthcoming. I did get a couple of rides in the Rapide though.

My mate Angi gave some serious thought to buying an autorickshaw. Leopard print decor and a souped up engine were important to her. Never happened sadly. :(

They’re expensive now, but you can get brand new ones in the U.K.

I’d like a ride in this

Do it. That's the one I did, worth every penny. This was my view during the run. All 4 engines going full chat was quite something.

They didn't let me drive it though.
