Where are you on the transport network?

To be fair skyscraper101 the weather this afternoon was most foul. We landed at Heathrow today about half hour before one of the most intense downpours I’ve seen in years came down on us. Planes can handle bad weather but when it rains as furiously as today, there must have been scores of delays and cancellations.

Although we dodged the rain, we still experienced an unexpected delay. Our plane was directed to a remote stand where several police cars were waiting. We were made to wait on our seats for 15-20 minutes and the flight crew kept misdirecting us about the reason, claiming we were waiting for ‘ground services crew’ to arrive despite half the plane seeing the coppers assembling outside. There had been no rowdy passengers and instead of the coppers walking in to march the culprit out, they eventually let us off with one copper watching us by the cockpit and the rest waiting at the foot of the stairs. I guess one of the passengers on board raised some red flags on a government computer, and they were sat at the back…

No compo if BA spin it that it’s weather related, pretty much everything else gets compo.

Still entitled to a hotel and food and drinks, if they are stalling and you can afford it just book it yourself and claim back later, tbf BA are pretty good at paying out for that, even if you book the Sofitel at T5 they’ll pay.

a slightly cheaper option may be a T4 hotel connected by a walkway so can stay dry

Can claim for dinner too but no booze

Get a receipt for everything

I’m in the longest queue right now just to get out of the airport.

They’ve told everyone to go to gate A20 (T5) but there’s like 700 people all doing the same

I’m happy to stay in a hotel but not sure if I should book myself or let them handle?

Book hotel now and claim later

Last year a late flight meant I missed the last Heathrow express that would get me on the last train back to Devon that night (except for the sleeper), I booked a premier inn and a train ticket for the following day and they paid up. I just showed them evidence for my pre-booked onward travel and they paid up.

Technically I could have got the overnight coach or sleeper home but fuck that

If one lives within an hour or so from LHR and the airline plays hardball, heading home at 10 pm and returning in the morning might be the least bothersome option, though still a major pain in the arse.
