What's in your glass?

I'd never noticed them before. I don't normally by beer in the supermarkets but I grabbed a few on my birthday (NYD) because I fancied something stoutly. I tried the Brewdog layercake one as well which was okish but the Vocation and the Siren ones are just lush. Now I'm hooked.

Who makes that Brizzol one Quoggy?
New Bristol Brewery though I can't see it on their website. I got mine via Beer52 who I have a monthly subscription with.

Yup just started discovering all this new canned and bottled stout. The siren ones are lovely too.

Also good. I'm glad supermarkets are stocking them, but wish they stocked more.

I'm rather partial to an Imperial Stout when I can find one, but they aren't that common. I mean who doesn't want stout that's almost as strong as wine?

I love Vocation's beers. In fact I'm drinking from a Vocation glass at the moment!

They have some great beers and loads more then website then you normally see in shops. Got my sister and brother in law a mixed case of their beers for Xmas.

Yup. I like an imperial stout. Had a couple when I was up in Edinburgh in some swanky brew bars but not seen any in the shops for a long time around here.

I plan on making one later in the year when I've got somewhere to brew again.

I've just ordered 24 cans with their 15% off your first order and free shipping. Trying 4 of their stouts that I hadn't seen on the shelves yet and of course we'll need six of each to make a proper assessment of the situation.

I see they have stopped doing the 11% Banana flavour one. Guess it wasn't that popular. :D

I've got a few cans of interesting ones I've had to hide in garage till February.

Here's another one you might like. Just had an email from them that reminded me about them. Out of stock at the moment, but they do some nice dark beers.

Vocation have just released a couple of big abv new ones. Ordering them for my holiday next month.

Wierd as balls here.

Cola cider from Aldi

I am somewhat list for words here.

It starts sweet but cider sweet not cola sweet.
It doesn't have that tartness you're expecting. More a soft drink tang.

It's not bad as you get a full mouthful but after you swallow things get weirder. You get that cider dankness in the back of your mouth.
Without the cider sharpness this mixes with the sweetness to have a strange somewhat off flavor.

It's not terrible and I'll finish the pack but I don't think I'll ever get it again.

I thought it tasted "thin" despite being over 5%. Which is a shame as I shop in Aldi a lot.

They do however have some great Belgium/French farmhouse style brews that are better then Leffe.
Aye not as rich as some of the other offerings but for the price I was pleasantly surprised. I love stout and I tend to drink that when I'm out. Titanic Plum Porter is my fav but when you buy stout in bottles it's got too much gas in for me. These new stouts are more akin to my tastes and have hardly any priming gas in. The Aldi one was the same sort of less fizz more bizz so unfortunately compared to my bottled plum proter it was fine for me.

I have looked at those French ones. Is the triple any good? My wife likes a Belgian sort of ale.

It's ok, but my least favorite. That might just be my tasted though. The St Pierre is good as is Biere Speciale (but not the Rhum finish version)

Ah yes. The cancellation process which you can't do online.
So they cold called me this morning to ask if I was enjoying the beers which I have but I don't want a subscription so I told them it was all a bit to "New age" for me and cancelled there and then.

Bit of a hard sell routine at first but easy enough to grab the free case and quit. I told the girl I was more of a tetley man than all this modern stuff. She gave up after that. 😀

Must admit the Vocation Monday deals of 36 cans for 45 sovs delivered is of more interest to me.

In a few months I'll ask the wife to sign up for beer52 and repeat the same crack.

That's why I remember it as I got my other half to do it and she moaned for ages about the cancelling bit :D

I'm not opposed to the idea, but you've got to really like every can to make it seem like reasonable value. I'd never choose myself an expensive 3.8% pale ale in a bottle shop or supermarket for example. Now if someone could just do a box of interesting stouts and belgium beers every month, they'd probably get a long term customer.

I just drank the last of the small bottle (around a double measure was left) of Old Bakery gin that OH got me for Xmas in 2020, with some Merchant's Heart pink peppercorn tonic.
Absolutely fucking lovely.
I really recommend Old Bakery gin, it is eye-wateringly pricey (£70-£80 a litre) but is really good and even a small bottle makes an excellent gift for a lover of very good quality juniper gin. Absolutely gorgeous.

Have you seen this site? I ordered from them last year and made the mistake of ordering lots of draft beer, which wasn't the best once it had been bottled and shipped, but the cans were fine.

I have now. Cheers

I've just ordered a box of these to take on holiday with me next month. They've just released them.

Also grabbed one of the Affogarto Imperial Stout and the Wee heavy to stop me from breaking into the above..

I got that email. They sound great. I've got a couple of can of interesting imperial stout from order before xmas for next month I'm looking forward to. It will probably floor me after a month off. :D

Did the other new high abv one from Vocation tonight. The Wee Heavy. Immortal somethingorother. 11.5%

Not to my tastes. Like a Nukie brown and lyles syrup. No head but full of gas.

Ended up moving on swiftly to this. Home bargains.

It shouldn't taste as nice as it should for the price. Peanuts.
