What’s the ABV on that? I love the Nigerian Guinness as it’s more Belgian beer strength but I only come across it occasionally - usually in Afro-Caribbean run off-licences or on Carnival days - so something more widely available would be good 🙂

I should add that I am nocturnal atm due to OH's shift work so don't judge me for drinking at this time in the morning, I am off to bed shortly and this is technically a nightcap! (also night shifts are brutal)

I currently have a double measure of Silent Pool gin, with Merchant's Heart pink peppercorn tonic - fucking lush combination, would recommend.

After demolishing my first bottle of Marselan and the Cotes du Rhone, I started on a bottle of 2007 faux Chateauneuf - fruit quite prune-y after 14 years ...

Today I bought two bottles of the Marselan, plus two of Costieres de Nimes.
I may have to build up a stash in case the French wine supply dries up.

Damn you Aldi with your French wines ...
I can already vouch for the Marselan and Costières de Nîmes ... ... and their Côtes du Rhône was perfectly acceptable ...
I daren't look at the calories - let alone the dodgy alcohol consumption ...

I'm specialising in £5-ish Aldi varietal French wines at the moment ..

The Merlot is nice and chewy with just enough acidity to cut through my yeasty cuisine.

Aldi have Fleurie :) - haven't tasted that for ages - £7.99 ...

EDIT:-

OK only just opened the bottle and follows a glass of hearty marselan and a shedload of UMAMI dinner and I expect it to be subtle - but first impressions mostly less body and more acidity ...

I had a bottle of this over Christmas (though the 2017), which was absolutely gorgeous. Ad then - miracle! - I found another bottle in the wine rack. Thank you, and happy New Year, 2021-self! <3

Aldi have run out of a lot of the amazing French reds they had before XMAS. I should have risked my health and made multiple special trips just for wine :(
I hope they don't run out of the Marselan ...

Maurel Vedeau Merlot Cabernet France 2008.

Amazing. Almost pure raspberry with a hint of sour plum - even more raspberry than the Aldi Minervois it took me a while to understand after months of Fitous and other hearty reds...
This one has welcome acidity and astringency to go with my yeasty stew - but a little more body than the Minervois...
