What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Has anyone got a tried and tested mushroom rice recipe? :)
If you're talking long-grain as opposed to risotto rice, my mum used to make this, I still do and it's really good comfort food, hot or cold.

Fry some sliced onions, chopped bacon and mushrooms in a frying pan with some butter (it has to be butter because of the mushrooms, nothing else will do for this dish) and fry up well (I usually put in a few chilli flakes, which my mum never did). Meantime cook the rice. Cook some mangetout or petis pois, or ordinary frozen peas. Stir it all together and eat.

Pasta with a creamy mushroom sauce.

Tonight is smoked mackerel and braised puy lentils & cabbage.

I've only got basmati in, but I think that'll work, thank you :) was looking for a side to go with some baked chicken, and I can't get enough of mushrooms at the moment.

I think I'm gonna try out those veggie hotdogs if I can find em in the supermarket. Course, I'll do some boiled onions and have with lovely hot pepper relish too

All this talk of spag bol reminds me I need to freeze our leftovers. That last one I made was one of my best, I reckon.

Gammon steaks and salad tonight. Still got some home-grown (by GF's parents) radishes left too. Can't wait for ours to be ready!

Managed to find the veggie hotdogs, but gonna have them tomorrow instead.

Tonight we're now gonna have quorn chicken, peppers, onions, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts in a black bean and roast garlic sauce, with noodies  And jam and chocolate doughnuts, rarrr

Toasted smoked salmon on wholemeal with dijon mustard, lime juice and herbes de provence.

Oh well, we didn't have any eggs so I had a toasted cheese sandwich. The kids had steak pie, new potatoes and vegetables. I don't like pie though.

Stuffed flat mushrooms, boiled new spuds with butter, fresh broad beans, asparagus. Dollop of B&J's Baked Alaska ice cream.

Well, we're still affected by RBS/NatWest fallout so it's store cupboard stuff. Spaghetti tossed in a mix of garlic/butter/tomato purée/ black pepper/basil. Very moreish. Glad there was chopped basil in the freezer.

I'd prefer correctly cooked scrambled eggs on toast as well tbf

ie not the way Gordon Ramsay does it .. like a bowl of ol slops .. makes the toast go all soggy

Cook stuff properly ya weirdo !!

  :p

OUR scrambled eggs were lovely...creamy and soft, just like they should be :p
I also remembered there was a couple of bits of bacon left, so we had a rasher each and some baby plum tomatoes with s&p. Very nice, tbf!

Got a veggie friend of my daughter's coming over today...think we'll have pizza (unless they opt for beans on toast).
We forgot to eat more scones yesterday, too, so those for pudding.

last night we had some packet tortellini (very average) with bonus mushrooms and tomato sauce. mediocre tea at best.

tonight I'm going to make a bit more of an effort. probably some kind of cauliflower curry.

Turns out those rank quorn chicken fillet thingies are brilliant for stir fries! I just defrosted them and sliced them and they are much better like that than trying to eat whole. Mega tasty tea this was

Toneet - trialling veggie hotdogs, with boiled onions and all manner of relishes. And more custardy doughnuts

Which veggie hotdogs, soj? I'm currently exploring all things vegetarian sausage. Think the Caldron ones are the best, from what I've tried. The skins are weird, though.

Anyway, tonight we're having chicken breast stuffed with some kind of cheese, wrapped in bacon and served with some kind of rice and salad. With radishes.

Erm, can't remember the name of them now mate! Out of the freezer section in tesco they were...10 in a bag. I'm a bit wary of them but plenty of people on here seem to like them so gotta try them eh?

I'll try that, the littlun is bored of them.

The girls have chosen beans on toast
I can't face that again, myself :D so I'm going to use up the spinach and do some pasta with garlic/cream cheese/chopped spinach/king prawns.
