What's for tea tonight? (#8)

i ate the asparagus at lunchtime so tonight will be a cheeky takeaway pizza from the Turkish ice cream cafe at the end of the road - mushroom pizza in case you were wondering (Badgers)

The kids had lentil stew scavenged from the freezer, with rice and added feta and tomatoes. Not sure what we're having yet, maybe minestrone.

I did penne pasta ( is that the tunnel one? ) with cubed chicken breast and pancetta and frozen peas and red onion.....then poured 300 ml of single cream over the whole lot and it was bloody gawjuss! First time I've done it....even the 12 year old loved it and leftovers are in her packed lunch tomorrow....plates wiped clean with garlic bread....seriously calorie laden . but I cooked out of protest to our crap weather.....salad when the sun comes out.

A sort of make-it-up-as-I-go-along chilli. So far I've cooked the mince (beef) and the black-eye beans (they cook so fast, I love them, don't even need to soak) added one to t'other plus two cartons of chopped tomatoes, chipotle flakes and plenty of garlic. I will probably add peppers and maybe some sweetcorn, but veg of some sort anyway, and the rice will go on shortly.

Bit of cumin & coriander with that?

I was worried about some Cornish sole that I have had in the fridge for a few days, but it turned out to be just fine, so I wrapped it in foil and did it for a while. Very nice. Also made a tomato salad, highly martyred, zazzed up with a squeeze of very ripe lemon.

I wasn't enough, though, so I moved in on the bananas. I want them to ripen even further, so that I can make Nigel Slater's banana, hazelnut and chocolate loaf/cake.

Apart from that, my diet is going reasonably well :) , although I did collapse, briefly, last night and had a pizza at Strada. That place is going off the boil.

it's May and we're all doing wintry/comfort/chilli type food......sign of the times...
No, it's because of shift workers in the house. They want something substantial and reheatable in the microwave when they get home in the early hours of the morning.

Curry for us tonight... portion of lamb keema matar from the freezer, wasn't very big so I made potato and fenugreek curry with some cabbage thrown in. It was really quick and tasty, but so hot I had to stir some yogurt in

How did you do the potato and fenugreek curry? I have a packet of Fenugreek seeds in the cupboard, and they have been there for too long, unused, unopened ....

Why is what other people have for dinner so interesting? I don't understand it, but I like to know. 553 pages can't be wrong... why does it interest us so much? What internet randoms have for dinner? Why do we feel the urge to tell strangers what we're eating? Weird innit, but here we are!!

It is a common thing that all people do? I find it pleasing to create something nice to eat and get ideas from others. Better than the Big Brother threads for sure
