What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Tried the 'national dish' - cod and chips.

Big sweaty fish finger is what it should be called. Bored of it by 1/4 of the way through, soldiered on and I now I feel like I've ingested a deep fat fryer.

Courgette soup with some grated cheddar on top and garlic bread from the freezer.
Will prob give them some ice cream for pudding as a pay off for having soup for dinner. :p

As Biddly says, should be a nice crispy batter. Is lovely when done properly and served with chunky chips, minted peas and ketchup :)

oooh I had a lush fish and chips last week, even though the chips were served stacked in a poncy way :D

tonight... bubbly and nibbles

I'm thinking about doing a proper Creole gumbo tonight. Half an hour just on making the roux though. And one of those things that requires constant attention. Then about another hour and a half cooking time on top of that. Hmmmm. So worth it in the end though.

gah, lacking inspiration. the new infestation of food moths has put paid to anything rice based for a while :( eeeuw.
Poor you. We managed to get rid of ours but it's given me a lifelong horror - have to check rice etc every single time I use it now.

Well, I have about 10 fishfingers left to eat, so if I can face them, it's those with some lemon and coriander couscous, and if my tomatoes didn't blow off the fucking plants last night, a few of them mixed in a salady type thing with chopped red onion.

^ this, whoever came up with it? FFS leave the peas alone!
I got pie and mash from Pieminster at a festie this summer, and the only peas they had were minted mushy peas.

They felt the sharp edge of my tongue, let me tell you. Posh cunts - couldn't BELIEVE they didn't have any normal mushy peas!!

Sweaty? The batter should be crispy :hmm:

Yeah, it looked crispy in the shop but then it got wrapped and bagged so by the time I got home the steam had turned everything soggy. Next time I'll go to Olleys or the Cow in Dull-witch and eat one fresh.

Probably won't go for cod though, not very fish stock friendly is it? Not very clued up about that, what should we be eating to not deplete stocks? Haddock?

I don't really like Olley's or the Sea Cow :D (sea cow does nice fish, but their chips aren't right, and Olley's is way overpriced). Pub fish and chips can sometimes be a winner though :)

Tbh, no fish is great, but I have it in my head that cod is the worst, so tend to go for haddock or hake - hake is lovely :)

You bloody bunch of philistines. I bet if this was the dark ages you'd all have me burnt at the stake?

Mint, peas, butter...YUM.
