What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Update on my retsina order, due to the 25% off for 6+ bottles (for which I still qualified), I was paying £4.30 a bottle. They refunded me the normal retail price of £5.75 for the bottle that broke in transit. So that's something at least.

No tea for me tonight as I’ve been driving all afternoon/early evening, which means hours of questionable food choices. Had a late lunch at a McDonald’s near Exeter, where I tried the McPlant and fries, which was very good, in a crappy, too-sweet Maccy D’s kind of way. Then we ran into road closures, which necessitated a bag of sweets. The original plan was to get to Fleet Services and try out one of Burger King’s plant-based offerings for dinner, but I couldn’t eat two burgers in one day, so I just had a bag of crisps. Now at home and contemplating a slice of bread and butter.

I need a big plate of vegetables tomorrow 😆

It was a Fray Bentos pie with actual veg balti in it. My first-ever Fray Bentos. And, most definitely, my last.

Fray Bentos pies were one of those things I remembered fondly as a rare treat for tea when I was a nipper. Tried one in adulthood and was very disappointed. Actually was probably the source of my horrendous bout of e-coli (didn't cook properly in the middle and I thought "fuck it, it's not going to do any harm" and ate it anyway - I chose poorly).

Do Goblin steak and kidney puddings still exist? Those are something else I remember.

OH is off tonight so I'm cooking something for both of us to sit down and eat together!

I'm doing Trinidad style (ie. red) stew fish, jerk chicken (for me), rice and peas. Maybe another side, depending upon what I can pick up in Morrison's when we do our main grocery shop later today.

Can't wait.

Oh yes - we certainly had Fray Bentos pies as kids.
I probably smothered it in brown sauce.
All the excitement was in the opening of the tin!
Visited Buenos Aires a few years back - contemplated crossing the border into Uruguay to visit FB
We never got around to it.
The factory itself closed in 1979.
Now owned by Baxters who process the pies up in Scotland
I don't recall the Goblin brand..
Anyways - no tea for me tonight.
Meeting mates for a few drinks after work and probably wont get to eat.
I usually have a light lunch (if any) but my tea will be a Spoons meal quite soon.
More likely their roasted vegetable pizza - not too bad actually. (£10.95 including drink)
Enjoy your meals folks and have a lovely Easter!

Just got the grocery delivery and I had ordered a selection of cream buns/pastries that came in a variety pack arrangement
I didn't realise there were 4 in a pack and had ordered 4

So now we have 16 cream buns or assorted types ranging from classic eclairs to long donuts with cream and jam and those iced puff pastry and cream squares...

😁😁

Chicken burgers now off the menu and it'll be cream cakes all the way!!
