What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I found myself standing in front of some jars of Berbere the other day so I bought one and have made tsebhi birsen. It's ok... I had to double the amount of berbere to get it to taste of anything and it's still not very exciting. With brown rice, bit of greek yoghurt and some home made chutney.

I'm going to put my leftover roast beef into a casserole type thing - it's quite lean so will also put some bacon in for the fat and some flour to thicken the sauce, carrots, parsnips, onions, mushrooms, herbs, beer and stock.
With mashed potato and mashed swede.

EDIT: Oh I also have a bit of Yorkshire pud left (I made a big one last night), will reheat that too.

We’ve got some thin steaks that get eaten or frozen today. The plan is steak, chips, green beans and broccoli. Possibly some mushrooms if they need using.

We’re quite tired so it could easily turn into pizza delivery. I do quite fancy the meal though.

Day 3 of a batch of veggie and bean stew - with added kale and mushrooms as usual - served with a crazy amount of salad - mostly baby spinach, but also a healthy portion of alfalfa sprouts - and I'm experimenting with light-exposed lentil sprouts stirred-into the hot stew as a kind of warm salad.

It is my hope to get myself so organised that I can have home-grown salad all year round - even on a very small urban scale ...
The acquisition of a freezery thing to keep my carrots and sprouts viable for a long time - plus the pandemic - have left me even less inclined than previously to make regular visits to the supermarket for expensive salad.

Part 2 of the tsebhi birsen, with more spice added, slightly better but still not that tasty. Thinking about it I've had this reasonably regularly, or similar, from Ethopian and Eritrean food stalls. What I made tastes nothing like that.

Made an aloo gobi type thing to go with it and had a home made wholemeal pitta from the freezer.

A chicken breast stuffed with sausage meat (from a Lincolnshire sausage), wrapped in bacon, and baked. (Absolute meat fest, picked up some Lincolnshire sausages and some Hampshire breed dry cured bacon off the reduced to clear this morning, will freeze the rest of the packs of each)
Roast potatoes, parsnip and swede. Steamed broccoli. Gravy.

I'm also going to make a rice pudding - an old style one cooked in the oven for a couple of hours on a low temperature and forms a nutmeggy skin on top.

Episode 3 of the underwhelming tsebhi birsen (should have frozen it after episode 1 - although then probably I'd have avoided it, knowing it was underwhelming), episode 2 of the aloo gobi thing, brown rice, mini samosas from the freezer.

We had a tapas frenzy from Tapas Fusion at my mother's last night, then brought home a load of patatas bravas, cauliflower, whipped truffle goat cheese and bread, so I added a couple of aubergine/tomato stacks and broccoli to make a meal out of it. Now awaiting the emergence of a blueberry and rhubarb tart, scented with orange zest and star anise, from the oven.
