What's for tea tonight? (#8)

I'm not sure but it smells nice. Narnia has one of her concoctions simmering on the hob. I saw some Ikea meatballs getting thrown in to the mix but apart from that it smells very pimiento and thyme. Apparently there's crusty bread as well.

Late one tonight, I'm in the process of making leek and potato soup, we have most of a baguette and some butter to go with it.

We are both starving so may also raid the kitchen for other stuff, we have tortilla chips and a variety of dips.

When I went grocery shopping Tuesday morning, beef roasting joints were on special offer at less than half price so as it is something I can rarely afford I jumped on a small (600g) silverside joint - that will do me for at least 2 or maybe 3 meals if I am frugal with it.

I'm going to have to google to remind myself how to cook such a small joint of beef (any suggestions or tips would be welcome! Also ideas for leftovers!)

Will be having it with Yorkshire pud, roast spuds, steamed broccoli, cabbage, gravy - may pick up a parsnip to roast too.
OH will have the same sides but minus the parsnip which he hates and with a (store bought, but nice) cheese and leek pie as the main event (if the main event for both of us isn't my Yorkshires that is ;) ).

Mrs Miggins I'd sear the outside quickly in a pan, then pop in the oven at 180 for 20 mins.

I think that's about my beef silverside? :D - thank you for the help - being the only (human) meat eater in the house I rarely roast meat besides chicken anyway, and on the rare occasion I get something else it is always a tidgy little bit that is going to be far easier to get wrong and overcook than a big joint where roasting time is being calculated for multiple kgs!

I appreciate the assistance! :)

At the weekend I made a leek and cheese tart, roast purple sprouting brocolli and caramelised carrots.

Last night I did pasta with a slow-cooked courgette and tomato sauce. Curly kale on the side.

Cor - would you mind sharing the recipe for the tart? Sounds lush (I mean it all sounds good but a tart is more bakey precise ingredient measurements type thing)
