What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Spag bol, with the bol that I made in the slow cooker yesterday (mince, onion, garlic, green lentils, carrot, red pepper, passata and lashings of red wine).

Teriyaki baked salmon with egg fried lemon, chilli and coriander rice with peas and broccoli.
Must finishe the last of the cherries for pud (if they're still edible?!)

Dunno if I have just the boy or both of them tonight :hmm: but am risking it and have taken seabass fillets out of the freezer to have with baby potatoes and broccoli.
If she IS here too she'll just have to have an egg on toast or something :p
Melon and strawberries for pudding.

No daughter BUT there's been some small changes of plan which are going to result in a slightly odd dinner :D ...made some jerk sauce for later in the week and there's loads so put some on the fish, but THEN my neighbour gave me a load of potatoes which a friend with a plot gave her, not realising that she's just off on holiday, PLUS I discovered some creme fraiche that needs using....so we're having jerk fish and dauphinois potatoes.

Also the FUCKING woodlice keep munching away at the strawberries and this is a particularly battered lot that my son would probably notice weren't quite as they should be, so I'm disguising them and doing an ice cream milkshake for pudding instead... ;)

Gammon and mash with parsley sauce.

Never cooked gammon before. Bit confused really how to do it. The Tamsin Day-Lewis recipe says nothing about roasting it, but in the accompanying picture it has definitely been roasted. Think I will just boil and not fret about glazes and all that.

chicken and chard risotto. 2 out of 3 fussy beggars enjoyed it enough to want seconds, the third fussy beggar required the chard to be picked out

I too would like seasoned gammon-cooks to explain what it's all about. Keep being tempted in the shop, then thinking "hang on, I don't know how to prepare this".

It depends on the cut of gammon. If it's a gammon steak you can just fry it or grill it. A gammon joint can be simply boiled, or boiled and then roasted. The roasting is really to get a glaze on it, it's not strictly necessary.

For our tea tonight we have tuna marinated in soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic and ginger with egg fried rice.

I really don't feel well & keep thinking I'm going to be sick but I also feel very empty & hungry. I'm having one of those Glorious Goan Lentil Soups with a half of a garlic bread. I get the feeling that I may need more though.

Don't you boil it in coca-cola or something? Or is that ham?

You can just boil it with a load of veg and it turns out grand.

Thanks, figured as much really, but... you know.

I didn't get any of this as they'd eaten it all by the time I got home .
I forgot to say 'just heat yours up and I'll do mine when I get home' so they assumed it was all for the 2 of them.
There was loads of it so I didn't think it needed saying.

I ended up with some cold chicken, rice & salad which was quite nice, but not really the same :(

That looks delish, Garek!

Our dinner was a right treat - low fat creme fraiche in Dauphinoise potatoes actually works!

Was this recipe in case anyone's interested (and I used low fat creme fraiche AND skimmed milk but a little less stock).... http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/853650/the-ultimate-makeover-potato-dauphinoise

And my son said the fish and the potatoes went very well together (that basically just means HE LIKED THEM BOTH hehe :D )!

Just me and the girl tonight - I'm having a dressed crab with a nice roll and some salad - she's having beans on toast  (she LOVES beans on toast, tbf! :p ). Melon for pudding - maybe a cornetto for her, too.

Oh, how ANNOYING!

ETA - Tonight you should make a big pot of something really tasty, then scoff the fucking lot and say 'OHHHHH SORRY! I just assumed you'd already eaten! Sandwich, then?' :p

Pizza* and salad, wimberry pie.

*roast pepper and spinach, Badgers.

Cheers moose :)

I wanted something healthy and went for Couscous in the end. Was with a bit of tuna, tomato, tomato paste, chilli and olive oil. Took all of 5 minutes to make and was really delicious. I have leftovers today :)

:D

Just me so I'm having cod with salsa verde and some kind of veg or salad depending what there is in the fridge.

It's tempting...
There was 1 portion of a particularly delicious sausage/bean casserole in the freezer so I've taken it out for my tea - AND MY TEA ONLY
(I've hidden it in the cupboard to ensure that it doesn't go missing).
They can have egg and chips.

ooh, I had salsa verde in a restaurant the other day - on some lamb.
It's the first time I'd had it and it was bloody lovely.
Do you make your own Ms T?

 I know this feeling!

Anyhow, I had a stunning Chicken Saffron Special last night, nommmm, and tonight we shall be dining on pasta with LG tom and basil sauce, with black olives and a smattering of parmesan. Oh and some home-made garlic bread

I've got some sausages out of the freezer so it'll be a sausage and bean casserole if I can be arsed, or sausage and mash if I can't.

A winner either way, mrsfran.

I'm having worthy lentil spag bol with no cheese and brown pasta. I had 2 big macs for tea yesterday and I'm meant to be on a diet.

I'm not sure but thinking it may be baked sweet potato with grilled chilli halloumi with various bits of salad & cous cous.

Salsa verde just means green sauce and is mint and parsley blended with garlic, lemon juice and olive oil. You can put capers in as well if you want.

I thought you'd written salad verde at first and I thought you were being all posh.

It sounds really yummy though, I'm growing some lemon mint at the moment which might be perfect.
