What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Fried bread with fried mushrooms and tomatoes.

I was supposed to have this for breakfast at the campsite, but I forgot to take the oil and stuff I'd carefully decanted into special camping bottles.:(

I surpassed myself. There weren't enough pork chops to go around so I also did reasonable quality sausages poached in scrumpy (brought back by the lodger from his last visit home to Devon) plus some wholegrain mustard and dried apple*. I did roasties, green beans and mashed swede/carrot and the pork chops were done with garlic and mushrooms and a bit of rosemary.

*initially it was too acidic so I scraped out the dregs of a jar of honey that had crystallised and that rescued it.

I shall write this on the empty scrumpy container and apologise to William Carlos Williams

I have used
the scrumpy
that was in
the fridge

and which
you were probably
saving
for when there was no other alcohol in the house

Forgive me
I thought it so perfect for poaching the sausages
and I was right

K i made the calcannon.
Did you ever eat Colcannon, made from lovely pickled cream?
With the greens and scallions mingled like a picture in a dream.
Did you ever make a hole on top to hold the melting flake
Of the creamy, flavoured butter that your mother used to make?

CHORUS

Yes you did, so you did, so did he and so did I.
And the more I think about it sure the nearer I'm to cry.
Oh, wasn't it the happy days when troubles we had not,
And our mothers made Colcannon in the little skillet pot.

excellent scrumpy tribute, mrs m

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM HAVING. i have been wanting a roast dinner, sausage mash and gravy, pizza, fish and chips and shepherds pie.
we're about to go out and forage, and i have no idea what i'll end up with :hmm:

What did you have in the end, tufty?

My Korean feast went down quite badly with my vegan friends, I guess some people find Korean a bit odd. They wouldn't even drink the Makgeolli I brought cos they didn't like how cloudy it looked.

I'd like to make mung dahl tonight, does anyone have a favourite recipe? Is it ok to just use whole green mung beans?

Love the colcannon song, Mrs M. That's nicely replaced various nursery rhymes on my internal jukebox, thankyou!
I just had a bigfat curry for lunch, which was super double yumyumyum. DH is out tonight so I think I might just have icecream and Nothing Else. Maybe even in bed.
:D

:(

Poor Yu_Gi_Oh, didn't they even pretend it was delicious?

Something out the freezer with oven chips for me tonight.
Skint week here for us too, but I did spot some venison in the freezer this morning that I'll slow cook tomorrow so not all bad.

tonight will be either vegetables and fish or pasta with chillies and tomatoes.

I could make a simple prawn and tomato curry, but what can I have with curry that isn't carbs? :hmm:

Seems odd to have just a bowl of curry on it's own.
