What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Smokey bean stew...I did a pot of mixed lentils and barley (washed), then fried onion, carrot, garlic, smokey bacon and celery. Roasted a red pepper. Added all this to same pot and adzuki and mixed beans, plus 1l chicken stock. Oregano, smoked paprika and chilli flakes are main condiments. It's been bubbling for a while and smells awesome....will serve in bowls with a finish of garlic oil and dollop of sour cream, plus chunks of bread and butter and grated cheese. This dish is so cheap, it probably cost around 50 cents a bowl.

Sounds good. I've just been getting into cooking with beans a bit more. This was the bacon one I did last night.

I had no home-grown beansprouts available so I bought some traditional blanched ones and was pleasantly surprised by both the crisp texture and the beany taste.
Growing them with light adds vitamins, but this method still makes the amino acids available with minimal cooking and I'm already well-provided with vitamins with the other veggies I eat - so I think this is my cue to come up with a dedicated apparatus. This will also suit soy beans which seem to dislike sprouting in the light.

Even with added tahini and plum sauce, this is probably still under 1500 calories. :)

I almost don't have room for cereal for dessert :)
(I have Aldi rice krispies to add to the more wholegrain cereals - even though they contain arsenic)

Headed away for work and forgot my tea. :(

I've got a bag of food so won't starve, but I had some nice bolognaise in the freezer I made a while back and some posh dried pasta I bought from a Delhi. So it's rice and veg and stuff. Which tasty enough, but I'll be eating it for the next few nights and is no where near as appealing. Not for the first time I wish there were more decent takeaways in the area of Snowdonia I stayed. I could go for a pub meal but that feels way to decadent when I'm on my own.

Was out at a carvery....steak and mushroom pie, roast potatoes, mash, carrots and cabbage. I had a small plate but it was piled high, so not bad for €8. Sticky toffee cheesecake for dessert, which came with a generous dollop of vanilla icecream. Have done loads already today and plenty of driving. I'm now back in bed
