What's for tea tonight? (#8)

At a wedding....much prosecco and hors d'oeuvres which went on for hours (i'm not complaining as I love free food)....dinner was served around 7.

I chose a goats cheese tartlet starter with balsamic reduction, and seabass for the main. Actually quite excellent - we are on the Wild Atlantic Way right on the coast of Galway, fish here is amazing, you can actually smell sea salt in the air and its been mad sunny - we really appreciated the good luck. Seabass for the main which was gorgeous and presented it in an odd, tarragon butter sauce. Dessert was a decadent selection of loads of small things: lemon meringue pie, ice cream, brownie, all very grand but too much for me. And necessarily danced off later during the Siege of Ennis!...

We've got friends round for dinner so

Champagne
Congee with soy eggs and chicken (white wine)
Chairman Mao's Red Braised pork, rice, sesame aubergine, sweet and sour peanuts, crispy kale (red wine)
Lemon Posset with Chinese style almond biscuits, with walnuts on 'cos I forgot to buy almonds  (dessert wine)
Maybe some cheese if we are not full
Ron Millionaro rum and sloe gun

Weds was leftovers from work - toad in the hole with roast potatoes, which I did with peas and Bisto - which was a bit meh.
Thursday we had a chinese and last night we had more work leftovers - bagels with sausages, mayo and cucumber and some reheated chips, which were shit :D
I had to work today and completely forgot to think about dinner and don't have anything I can do from the freezer. I have stuff to make corned beef hash but not sure I cba, so I'm kicking myself for getting a takeaway on Thurs now
Might just be crumpets and crisps or something :hmm:

I'm having a go at a chicken tikka masala for that real authentic takeaway moment. Maybe. Seems there are a million different recipes and ways of making it, but I'm having a go at the Madhur Jaffrey one (with extra spice), although I've using some premarinated meat that I found in a halal butcher. Hopefull goes to plan. Looking forward to it as I've spent the morning getting rained on, so could do with something warming.

Well that tasted like it came from a takeaway. Not necessarily a good one, but think a step in the right direction and was quite cool making a curry in a wry different way to what I'd done before (add Yougurt to the Onions and spices, then chopped up Tomatoes and then veg stock and allowed to thicken)

Went to a local community place for a bring & share veggie buffet. Most dishes didn't have labels so not entirely sure what was there but all homemade. I know polenta chips, red cabbage slaw, falafel, tofu Thai cakes, cous cous salad, risotto cake, more salads, amazing dips plus more. I took a Mexican salad. It was an amazing feast.

Wholewheat penne with a sauce i made from bacon, red onion, garlic, cream and blue cheese. Served with parmesan and chopped parsley, kale and garlic bread on the side. It was decidedly underwhelming.

Sunday is my meal prep day so treating myself to a readymeal after I've cooked healthy stuff for the rest of the week. Lasagne and salad tonight, not sure about pudding yet - I did buy some chocolate buttons which didn't survive the trip back from Aldi yesterday  but I have a spare two quid in the bank even though I've technically spent all my food budget for the week, so I could get something from the Co-op :hmm:
