What's for tea tonight? (#8)

Bumped into my Mum outside Sainsburys, after work and she asked me round for tea.
Leg of lamb, spuds, sprouts, peas and gravy.

Which, needless to say knocked my plan of going into Sainsburys and buying something and going home to cook it into a cocked hat.
It was bloody lovely, too. Ta, Mum.

Hooray for your mum ❤

Spaghetti carbonara. I've got some lovely free range bacon to use up from a farm stall which was next to Streatham Station on Saturday, and the littlun wants some facon with hers.

Will be stopping off at Fortnums on the way home to get a birthday present for an Italian friend loads of us are visiting this weekend for a massive party. She's the best cook I know so I need to find something interesting (ingredient or food/kitchen gift) that she won't have already, but Fortnums should be good for that. Any suggestions welcome. Might spot something I need too so the carbonara might go out the window.

Ooh gift for immense cook and foodie friend: last weekend I got my friend's fella a block of 'solid bar' Colombian drinking chocolate. It's 100% natural and fair trade (on the left on this link). Also was nicely wrapped and he looked intrigued when I handed it to him

Hasslacher's Colombian Chocolate

If your friend is a stellar cook, I might avoid getting her a kitchen tool, as she could easily have it already, or have reasons for not having it. I would stick with food. If someone wanted to buy a present for me, I would like some real marshmallows, cos I don't think I've ever tasted them. Or bright gold edible dazzle dust I can put on a cake (it's really expensive, like around €15...) Flavoured oils she might not have could go down a treat. Or you could go with something a bit bonkers - the other day I bought myself a packet of 'truffle flavour' crisps (they cost around €6 and ridiculously indulgent and delicious). I was just curious to try them. Or caviar is always a nice gift for a foodie (although be aware of whether or not she likes it!!! some folks just don't dig it!)

Good luck and let us know how you get on :cool::thumbs:

I was in there last year and they didn't seem to sell actual food you could cook with or anything useful, just gift tins of biscuits for tourists.

I'm thinking similar, along the lines of Japanese or Korean oil or ingredients. Something unusual anyway.

I spotted a few things last month when I was in there, but if I'm struggling I'll nip up to China Town. I'm going to try not to wind them up about leaving Hackney for Hastings and not being able to get decent ingredients :D:D:thumbs:
