What's currently good on the BBC iPlayer?

Watched the first episode of the latest adaptation of Great Expectations, featuring among others the great Olivia Colman as Miss Havisham.

I had little appetite to give it a try because how many bloody versions of a given novel can the world sustain… At least with the likes A Christmas Carol, the tone and subject matter is far more upbeat so one can contemplate the prospect of watching yet another new adaptation, whereas the grimness of Gr Exp doesn’t exactly cry out for countless revisits, at least for me.

But despite my considerable reservations, I must say I really enjoyed the first episode. And that’s even before Olivia Colman gets to play in this, other than a brief introduction. Actually looking forward to continuing watching it.

'Im not a pervert.'

'You do a good impression of one.'

Not sure why that one made me laugh so much.
🤣🤣 it’s the way she delivers them too.
The characters all have something to like and dislike about them. Selby is a shit but he cares in his own way. We should hate Lenny, he should disgust us but there is more to him than that. I still can’t get used to Ade Edmonton being old though 🙄.

Saving Our Wild Isles (the companion piece to the David Attenborough Wild Isles series) is now available to view on iPlayer.

Go to the Wild Isles page that lists the episodes and it is on the "Extras" tab there.

The final segment features Cody Dock which is the project in Canning Town that I volunteer with doing biodiversity monitoring. I am briefly visible at one point in the documentary, but (fortunately, or maybe unfortunately - I am undecided how I feel about it) none of the bits of my interview were shown (I probably waffle and hesitate too much when speaking). My young friend and volunteering colleague however was very enthusiastic and gives good interview and he stole the show, they used several clips of him (bloke in his early 20s with glasses and I think he was wearing a blue top and orange hi-viz) - he was absolutely delighted to be on TV and we were all chuffed for him (we were at a screening tonight).

Just watched Blue Lights, recommended on the previous page, and loved it. I almost binged it in one sitting, but decided in the end to turn it off at 1am and keep the last two episodes for breakfast.

I clearly have a low bar for loving cop shows though, as I also loved the Fishermen Tripe (as it shall henceforth be known) one!

That's some level of dedication, there are a lot of episodes aren't there?
Mind you I'm like that with some series and a few films, so not a criticism. I just never got into Seinfeld. :D

This is why we ended up not bothering with Happy Valley. As the whole world is raving about it, I have no doubt is excellent, but life’s too short to watch harrowing dramas full of horrible cunts committing horrible crimes.

That's a whole genre though, and Happy Valley is pretty much the apex of British crime drama.
For people who are into that, it's bloody brilliant!

If you are not into that sort of thing then of course fair enough :)

Another vote for Colin from Accounts. Charming and very funny. I also appear to be a bit in love with the female lead

Watched three Colins' last. night. It is absolutely nothing like Seinfeld, not one tiny little bit. It's not dark comedy either, it's incredibly light and sweet. Fluffy even. It's okay.
Hmm. Maybe not that dark. I was thinking of all the stuff about her relationship with her mum. And his insecurities as an aging middle aged man with some questionable passtimes.
But yeah, enjoyed it either way.
