An interesting article:Why on Earth would Donald Trump want to buy Greenland? | WIRED UK

And cartoon (which I find quite amusing)

but, I suggest there may b more to it than that.

this Molyneux fellow is from athlone.

story: I've been in athlone a few times, it was a central point among the various family and friends we used to visit (myself and the parents). on my second trip, iirc, 11 years old, we stopped in a shop and the woman behind the counter was wearing a mogen david necklace. i was stopped, as at that age i thought of all irish as being either catholic (normal) or presbyterian (confused). I'll assume there's no direct connection between being an irish "scientific racist" and being from an irish town with a Jewish population, but it is a jolt for me.

In what could be serious news, the sale of F16s to Taiwan is a biggy. This can only destabilise the area even more than Trump has managed to far.

Trump tweet said:
Major consideration is being given to naming ANTIFA an “ORGANIZATION OF TERROR.” Portland is being watched very closely. Hopefully the Mayor will be able to properly do his job!

Can he even abuse the law that blatantly and, if he does, who will be the first to challenge him in court?

Trump: US considering possibly buying Greenland, 'essentially it's a large real estate deal'

Trump addressed the rumors with reporters outside Marine One after he'd landed in Morristown, N.J., saying Denmark has been losing money by keeping Greenland under its control.

"Essentially it’s a large real estate deal. A lot of things can be done. It’s hurting Denmark very badly because they're losing almost $700 million a year carrying it," he said. "So, they carry it at great loss, and strategically for the United States, it would be nice. And, we're a big ally of Denmark and we help Denmark, and we protect Denmark."

Trump said he may be visiting Greenland in the near future, but claimed the issue was not a top priority for the administration.

"Greenland is a strategic place up there, and they've got a lot of valuable minerals," Kudlow added.

"I don't want to predict an outcome. I’m just saying the president, who knows a thing or two about buying real estate, wants to take a look."

Trump calls for big rate cut and economic stimulus

"I don't think we're having a recession," the president said. "We're doing tremendously well, our consumers are rich, I gave a tremendous tax cut, and they're loaded up with money".

Um. If he watched a wider range of media....

It's hard because I saw that the UK was a beneficiary of his personal intervention to cut rates. But if he's thinking about a second term he will need trickle down ...and I suggest the best way of doing that is infastructure investment and the like, so there is more demand for labour (though more likely as the next round of automation kicks in ..provides for more opportunities to keep the wolf from the door)

Prime Minister Frederiksen must have been devastated to find out that she won't have to spend two days facing massive protests and babysitting a grotesquely overgrown toddler as he jabbers about Danish bacon or whatever else comes into his head.

It wouldn't be Danish bacon. That would require a smattering of interest in another culture. It would be some bollocks that he'd said or done and why he's great.

She must be skipping to work this morning.

..Frederiksen, who has been visiting the island to meet its premier, Kim Kielsen, told reporters on Sunday that Greenland could not be sold because it did not belong to Denmark.

“Greenland is not Danish. Greenland is Greenlandic. I persistently hope that this is not something that is seriously meant,” she said...
:D

But I think it was seriously meant, why else cancel the trip in what looks like a fit of petulance? Doesn't say anything about oil or minerals, just a possible airbase and 'real estate acquisitions'.

Trump cancels Denmark trip after PM says Greenland is not for sale

Word is she's skipping work due to a hangover. The cabinet were seen leaving a bar at half five local time this morning

Why was he wanting to buy Greenland anyway? Are there possible oil/mineral deposits there?
Yup. Considerable rare earth deposits, mining getting easier as it heats up - and strategic importance. They've had a base at Thule for ever, but it's dawned on Trump that Russia is massively winning the Arctic game. (However, the NE passage past Siberia will prove much more profitable, being the route China will be taking to Europe.)
Why does Donald Trump want to buy Greenland?

Not to mention all the old "cold war" stuff that is being revealed by melting ice, if not already mentioned.
But buying Greenland to cover that up can't be the only reason.

Wow, I just can’t even with this.

On Twitter it’s being spread around as though he’s saying Jews are disloyal to America, though I actually think he means they’re being disloyal to Israel. But either way it’s a bigoted and cretinous statement, and throwing around the expressions ‘Jews’ and ‘disloyal’ is fucking dangerous – it is a charge levelled at us throughout history. And also suggesting that Jew's 'loyalty' to Israel is or should be greater than wherever they live is not helpful, so yeah, thanks for that Donnie.

He also really seems to believe that all Jews should love him for his ‘support’ for Israel, though anyone with a brain can see it’s nothing to do with loving or supporting Jews or Israel and everything to do with pleasing Evangelical Christian backers who are waiting for Israel to convert on the Day of Fuckin’ Judgement, even if it means making everything 10 times more dangerous in the region.
