What stupid shit has Trump done today?

My brother does income tax preparation and yes, this is happening! About 80% of his clients are die hard Trump supporters (it's in the Illinois county that voted by the largest margin for Trump in the state, so it's not like he can be picky about customers.) They were expecting big refunds due to Trump's "tax break," and are bitching because instead, they've got smaller refunds than last year, or even having to pay in more. He's trying hard not to laugh at them. :D

Smaller Tax Refunds Surprise Those Expecting More Relief

The average refund among early filers was down 8.4 percent, according to the Internal Revenue Service. The smaller checks, in some cases, stem from the loss of certain deductions. For others, it’s because less money is being withheld from their paychecks. The I.R.S., in trying to more closely match the amount held out of paychecks with the amount that taxpayers will owe, changed its withholding tables.
Ashley Alt, who works in information technology in Illinois, said she was floored when her tax program spit out her $4,800 bill. “I was expecting to get less of a refund or maybe owe a little bit,” she said. “I did not expect to owe two months of take-home pay.”
...it also eliminated or cut back some popular deductions, most notably capping the deduction for state and local taxes at $10,000 — a provision that drew significant criticism from residents of high-tax states. Although most people will see their tax burden decline, the Government Accountability Office expected about four million people to pay more.

Trump demands California return $3.5 billion in funds for state's 'disaster' bullet train project

President Donald Trump late Wednesday demanded California return the $3.5 billion it received from the federal government for a "disaster" high-speed rail project.

"California has been forced to cancel the massive bullet train project after having spent and wasted many billions of dollars," Trump tweeted. "They owe the Federal Government three and a half billion dollars. We want that money back now. Whole project is a 'green' disaster!"

The $77 billion bullet train project, a planned system linking San Francisco to Los Angeles, has faced cost overruns and delays. California Gov. Gavin Newsom at his first state of the state address Tuesday announced a scale back of the high-speed rail project, saying the current plan "would cost too much and take too long."

However, Newsom responded to Trump's tweet Wednesday by calling it "fake news. We're building high-speed rail, connecting the Central Valley and beyond."

The Democratic governor also suggested in the tweet that Trump was "desperately searching" for some border wall money.

So, this is happening again.

Pro-Trump Trolls Are Impersonating Black People on Twitter

The tweet had more than a thousand shares in the hours after President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address on Tuesday. “I am a black trans woman and after this amazing speech tonight I proudly say I support Donald Trump my President,” user “BlackTransQween” wrote, using a profile picture of a black transgender woman. “We need to get behind this man.”
“BlackTransQween” also tweeted against immigration and gender options on driver licenses. When the profile disappeared this week, conservatives cried censorship. But in reality, the account had been suspended for breaking Twitter’s rules against impersonation, after writer Gabe Gonzalez revealed the account was using a picture of Charlene Arcila-Ecks, a transgender health advocate who died in 2015. The theft was the latest in a trend of people stealing African-Americans’ photos to push right-wing causes online. And with the 2020 elections looming, the identity theft is ramping up.

Its just a variant of the "I'm a small business owner" thing that you find on liberal talk shows. You see it a lot on YouTube and other social media too.
True, but I think it has the tendency to "get under your skin" more when it's on social media. I lurk but rarely post on Twitter. You can spot the bots/trolls a mile away, but you still get people discussing/arguing with them, maybe just for a couple posts, but it can make them look legit. Even when you know it's probably phoney, it can still wiggle its way inside your brain. If you're a social media "innocent," you may fall for it. Just look at how many people still post stupid urban myth things all the time.

If anyone hasn't already seen it, his speech and subsequent press conference today is amazing. I don't want to give any of it away, but it ended up with him claiming there were rocket ships over Japan before he took over.

Do you think he is unhinged or just at the stage where he reckons he can say anything and get away with it? Given the state of some of his supporters I'm going for the latter.

No but what I'm getting as does he believe what he is saying or does he just think 'fuck it, I can see whatever the hell I like'?

Not sure those two options are mutually exclusive

I can say whatever the hell I like, and because I've said it it becomes true

trump has succeeded so far by identifying an enemy and pointing at it, whether mexicans or losers. he knows he has a large bunch of people who will swallow whatever he says because they love a caudillo. he also can't admit he's defeated. so he's not nuts, he keeps playing the same game that's worked so far.

but he now has three groups against him he didn’t have before. 1:actual ideological conservatives who don't think the president should be using national-emergency declarations, esp. as a future president might do terrible, terrible things that way like declaring a health national emergency to establish medicare for all; 2:turf fighters in congress who don't like being shoved aside after negotiating the budget; 3people like coulter who are more trumpy than trump and are angry that he signed a budget without wall money because it means the libs won. i understand coulter's twitter is a nuclear war zone today.

That was just totally surreal, he kept leaping from subject to totally unrelated subject but returning at regular intervals to somehow try and tie everything into building his wall.
Where he was on about his immigration ban, I'm sure he said 'band' more than once. I was expecting one to strike in the background.

Their criminal list, a drug dealer gets a thing called the death penalty. Our criminal list, a drug dealer gets a thing called how about a fine? And when I asked President Xi, I said do you have a drug problem? No, no, no, I said you have 1.4 billion people, what do you mean you have no drug problem?

No we don't have a drug problem. I said why? Death penalty. We give death penalty to people that sell drugs, end of problem. What do we do? We set up a blue ribbon communities. Lovely men and women, they sit around a table, they have lunch, they eat, they dine and they waste a lot of time.

Sign of the times that the president of the US is going around praising authoritarian China for executing low-level drug dealers and it's not even the main headline.

Fuck a duck!
I've just watched some clips from the national emergency speech, taking careful note of content and how he came over.
The content was as expected, total bollocks, but the presentation style was nothing short of spectacularly idiotic. What was that demi=rap thing all about?
His inflection on the last word of every sentence was disturbing, a sort of random capital letter rant in a dangerously unhinged way - I'm amazed the man isn't in a safe environment for people with mental illness instead of the white house.
In my opinion, that speech was for one of two things:
To push the reasons for his pre=golf national emergency
To give him an option for a plea of insanity at any possible upcoming trial
