What stupid shit has Trump done today?

It was clear yesterday from the blandness of Downing Street's statement that May hadn't spoken to Trump: looks like she still hasn't. Which says a lot about the anglo-american relationship - there's clearly either no longer a direct line of communication between the British PM and USA President or May chickened out of using it when it could actually have been some use.
how do you mean Some Use?

Some use to her at least. If they had any kind of collaborative relationship she would have been on the phone saying this has fucked things right up for me, we need to sort it out and working out some way of saving face for both of them.

As it is she was either too scared to call or couldn't get through to him, and even the robotic non-criticism she issued has provoked a humiliating slap-down.

It would probably have just made things worse: "I have spoken to Mr. Trump about my concerns and he has graciously agreed to expand information-sharing in the battle against radical Islamic terrorism, a threat both of our countries face. Mr. Golding will be assisting me in this matter."

Trump knows what he is doing, any reaction is the one he wants, theres no face saving he needs to do, he couldn't give a shit if May sinks or swims. In fact what with him being mates with Farage I think he'd probably rather she sunk and a more UKIPy leader took over from her. No reason for May to call him.

Fucking hell...she thinks she Joan of Arc.
so does Marie le Pen.

I think he/they know what they are doing.

Someone has pointed out that he had to select those particular videos, they're not just the first things you see on visiting her twitter account and they weren't all tweeted out by Ann Coulter. Propaganda often uses a veneer of truth to sneak its lies through, and that's just what this has done. Two of the videos are, it seems, genuine footage of Islamic extremists doing bad things, and under their coattails sneaks the lie - the video of the Dutch kids fighting that's been repurposed.

Fransen's twitter following has gone up, Britain First will undoubtedly get more supporters, Tommy Robinson's on the news, this will be on the agenda in the Netherlands (which I gather is the next big target for this international nationalist populist movement), where even if it is roundly debunked it will allow the far right to get even more of a foot in the door. That video is viral, if you Google it you will find it on a million far right sites - that's where people will end up reading about it.

If that theory is going to stand up it will be interesting what (if anything) Trump has to say about the Swedish elections if he's still there next year.

There are a million Trump possibilities, of course. If you buy the full Russia theory then this fits nicely as a sowing of division, now driving a wedge between Britain the US just as we leave the EU.

If you buy the "racist uncle" theory then, well, yeah...

Yes - that's what I was saying.

I see she was smart enough to show a bit of cleavage when appealing to the world's most famous sexual predator.

I can't see how he can possibly have a state visit now (not that I particularly care to be honest, I'm not a royalist and I'm aware we'd probably welcome Satan if he was buying enough BAE jets).

But look at him, he's such a lose cannon he's bound to want to meet with Farage or even this lot and the government aren't strong enough to stand up to him. Do they want the American president slagging off the EU as Soros-funded cultural Marxists while Theresa May has to sit and smile?

He's going to want to go to Scotland to boost his bloody golf courses there and the SNP don't want him there and will, I suspect, not allow any "official" Scottish Government participation even if he gets tea at Balmoral and a round of golf with Prince Andrew and Colin Montgomerie at Troon or whatever. There will be big anti demonstrations... Parliament won't invite him for the trad address, and is he goes there I should imagine it will now be to a mass walkout... And so on and so on and so on...

He could take a shit in the Queen's lap and he'd still be the best President. Ever.
The scariest thing about him is the fact that no matter how far he goes off the scale with his batshit crazy rantings, his core support remains solidly behind him and the people around him perform ever greater mental gymnastics to defend him, There seems to be competition to out crazy the next guy.

Yeah, I've seen his supporters justifying his racism by saying he;s not being racist and hey whatabout insert random name here etc...

It can'tbe long before he's caught using the n-word and that will be justified by the core as well.

I don't think Trump's all that ignorant about what he's doing on Twitter - this isn't some bumbling old grandpa finding his way around Facebook, this is the guy who used social media to shred the establishments of both the Republican and Democratic parties and become the most powerful person in the world, without even spending much on campaign advertising.

Yes, it's on purpose. He's employing a negotiating tactic where you make the lives of your opponents so miserable and chaotic that they get exhausted dealing with it. And its working. I see most people reacting with something similar to after 9/11. People pulled back into their homes and cheap entertainment for a while. He's creating a kind of cultural PTSD and using that to distract from what's really going on.

Much has been made of him neglecting to appoint various department heads within the government. Department heads are temporary. Instead, he's been focusing on appointing federal judges. They are essentially "lifers" and will have an effect on the US long after Trump is gone. He's done this with little opposition because everyone is running around trying to put out fires. The GOP actually set this up by trying to block every judicial appointment Obama ever made. So there's all these vacant seats that the GOP is pushing through with very little opposition or review.

Brett J. Talley, President Trump’s nominee to be a federal judge in Alabama, has never tried a case, was unanimously rated “not qualified” by the American Bar Assn.’s judicial rating committee, has practiced law for only three years and, as a blogger last year, displayed a degree of partisanship unusual for a judicial nominee, denouncing “Hillary Rotten Clinton” and pledging support for the National Rifle Assn.

On Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee, on a party-line vote, approved him for a lifetime appointment to the federal bench.

So what qualification did Talley have? Answer: he’s conservative and he’s young. At age 36, he’s likely to stay on the bench 30 or 40 more years. He’s also white and male, which seems to be something Trump values pretty highly too

Donald Trump is doing one thing well: appointing lifetime judges
